Default BT and third party provider issues.

Can anyone help. The new place we are moving into has issues with the phone line. The owner has a phone line with a company called Pipex. She can't call out but still has her broadband and can receive calls. She has called her provider to cancel the contract however when I call BT to change our contract to the new place they say the line needs to be transfered by the owner before they can do anything.

This Pipex company look a bit pony and all their call centres are based in the middle of buttf**k but you would assume if you called up to cancel they would just stop the line.

Anyone understand these things better than me??

Hi mate,

Pipex are part of Tiscali I believe. They are correct though the lin needs to be novated (when ownership changes). Is the line out of the initial contract period? If so then they should do it. If you keep having issues contact offcom who are the governing body for telco companies:

Cheers,

Dan

Pipex are/were one of the biggest ISP's in the UK.

What has happened is that the previous owner "unbundled" their line for ADSL, which means that BT are no longer responsible for it.

You need to contact Pipex and ask for the PAC code, and to tell them you want to transfer to BT

Of course you can always just report the fault to Pipex who will then arrange to have it fixed - BT is being a bit sneaky here in advising you to switch the service back to them.....

Ah no BT aren't being sneaky, I want to transfer it back to BT but BT can't do anything until the current owner cancels the contract, which she has but BT won't recognise it. Are you saying that Pipex need to provide her with a code before BT can do anything??

Exactly - the current contract is with Pipex, who are technically the owner of the line as far as BT is concerned as they re-sold it to the current owner.

Its just like switching mobile phone providers - except you need to ask for a MAC code (not a PAC code as I said earlier - MAC's are for phonelines, PACs are for mobiles....)
