Hi all,
Couple of quick questions. I was working on my track bike this weekend and along with loads of other jobs, I changed the plugs and the oil and filter. Now, part1 - I noticed my rear spark plug had a little bit of oil on it. Not much, just enough for me to notice - no where near as much as in the picture at the back of the haynes! It also didn't look excessively blackened and she was running fine before hand. The front one was fine too. and part2 - when I drained out the oil, I noticed a verrry slight milkyness to it. It wasn't thick white or even solid white just a few white lines in there. No metal shavings or anything else and apart from the white, oil looked fine. The last time I raced it I had a big accident (hence the repairs) where the bike was sent cartwheeling (there are some photos on here somewhere!) The frame and forks are still straight so I don't think anything took too much of a whack, but it was upside down briefly! So I'm wondering could this be the cause and it's just a bit of general wear and tear and leakage - maybe a bit of water got in the oil or condensation or something. Do you reckon it's something I can ride on for a trackday or two and test the oil and plugs again later or is it time for a complete engine strip and overhaul/refresh? Sorry its a bit rambling. Dave

Have you maybe tried running the engine for a short time to see if it worked?
Usual suspect for slight milkyness is not running the bike for long enough and sometimes condensation. That's the only info I have. Someone else will be along |

I'd replace the oil & filter, then you're rid of the milky oil.
Clean the plugs & make sure the gap is right, then run it to warm up properly. You won't damage anything & it'll be relatively low load on the engine. Whilst it warming, watch for blue puffs of smoke. Then shut it off & look at the plugs. If you don't see anything that gives you cause for concern, run it around the track & check again. |

Chances are it's fine and you've just dumped a load of oil into the airbox via the breather.
Do as baph says, if nothing silly appears to be going on then it will be fine.
