My chain has no stiff links, it's on 25k.
But, it's knocking a bit at low speed. I think because the teeth on the rear sprocket are a bit hooked. I've got another C+S kit here, so do I sling that on, or just change the rear sprocket and hope to get another 5-10k out of it? P.s it's 3 teeth up on the back, so chain isn't under that much load in use. Most of wear is me being hamfisted and forgetting to fill scottoiler.

Really the whole lot should be replaced, but as long as you keep an eye on the condition of the chain I imagine it'll be fine.
+3 teeth on the back? What does it redline at in 6th? 80mph? ![]() |

Normally I would say they need to be replaced together but to be fair YC you know what you are doing.

140 indicated on the limiter, but I've heard you need to grab someones slipstream to hit the limiter in top.

how much is a rear sprocket? If it's only a tenner then yes as it saves the hassle of replacing the lot but look for any wear in the rollers on the chain too. Also before you do it check the front sprocket is clean, blah blah.

A rear sprocket is £20. Full drive kit was 100 or so.

From my experience I have learnt that once they start doing this they are on their way out , remember mine at the GMII ? . It sounded terrible , I had 27k out of it before forgetting to fill the Scottoiler one month . I knew it needed doing before I went there , I had to slather it with chain lube at every other stop even with a Scottoiler on and filled up . On the way home it got progressively worse and was "Chunking" at 85 mph . I got the bike home by the skin of my teeth and replaced the lot within the week . Funnily enough my chain was fine and the same with the rear sprock ... it was the front that was hooked ? . Maybe due to carrying lots of luggage and being 2 up a lot this year ? . I felt like replacing just the front but as an engineer I have replaced many parts of conveyors including chain driven ones and have learnt from the past that it is folly to do so . It`s just a bodge to get a handful of extra miles out of it . If I was touring the world and needed to do a few k to get home then yes .... from an economy point of view ..... change the lot over as your new sprocket may not wear to the old chain , you may make the chain wear to the new sprocket if it has lost the ability to stave off any wear .
I have seen sprockets in industrial situations that may have been slightly harder than the chain they are mated to , the chain has lost any hardness due to wear , almost as if the surface hardness has been worn through and it`s down to the softer material underneath . This is on something very industrial with the possibility of many millions of revolutions ........ but stuff like that tends to stick in your mind . YC, I've got a chain and sprockets from my SVs which has only done about 7.5k. It's just sitting in the garage. Think its ok too, I just replaced it with a bling gold one, which you won't like

I've already got a new set here maviczap, I appreciate the offer but I need to do something today (will be doing 1000 miles this week with no time to be working on bike).
Cheers for the offer but better to hang onto them for someone else who may need them more than I. That said, don't chuck them out, they can sit in my garage in case anyone needs them if you want rid.
