Quick post to say Hi !
Haven't logged in since june 2006, when I was contemplating buying an SV and registered here to allow me to look at the for sale board, as the nicest bikes came up here. Finally bought one from a chap at work last week, (who probably posts here from time to time!). So now the owner of a black 650s curvey, x reg, 22k miles, and enjoying it a lot. First impressions? A surprisingly docile and tractible engine (although it does sound a bit like a flymo to me!) and reasonably nice handling, already leaning further over than I generally dared on my gpz500 I had back then. Odd how at very low speed the steering seems to "flop" a bit into corners, but I'll just have to learn to corner faster! Don't have any issues with the front suspension, being a fairly small and lightweight chap, and in fact, without any particular "powerband" like the gpz, even easier to ride, and with a bit more torque, easy to bimble around town. Seating position feels almost identical, semi sporty but ok for a 40yo who gets out of breath bending over to tye his shoes! See you round the forums... |

Yep, it's funny riding a different bike to the only other "big bike" you ever rode, which was 5 years ago. Picking it up in the Croydon rushhour and riding home through heavy traffic was a touch un nerving to be honest.
Still, if I can get home safely through mental traffic after slinging a leg over for the first time in five years, I should be able to cope. Oddly enough, the SV always appealed as I am of "slightly" short stature, and to find a bloke in the office selling one for the kind of cash I had, it jsut had to be done! So far put a couple of hundred miles on it this and last weekend, and its all comming back, including my first wet ride today! Must admit though, the extra 10bhp doesn't seem hugely noticible. Is it wrong to already be looking at sv1000's ? |

If it "flops" into corners as you say, it may need a new front tyre.
I've had a curvy and a pointy in the past and never felt the handling as you have described it though . When I bought my daytona, the front tyre was knackered and when you went into a bed on it, you could almost feel it fall over into the bend. |
