Due to my git of a friend hogging my digital calipers i am currently unable to measure my shims.
Both have 172 written on them, i assume it means 1.72mm but as suzuki dont sell these, im now unsure. Is 172 an aftermarket shim or a default shim that its fitted from the factory? Both exhaust valves on the front cyclinder are between 0.18 and 0.20. So i am gonna take a gamble and go 1.65mm unless someone stops me lol. |

Good morning.
Most of the manufacturers use intermittent sizes of shims that aren't available to the trade & general public, I use the term 'factory' shims. Honda do supply intermittent sizes, (for CBR600's etc), & as they're identical to your Suzuki ones, it's perfectly ok to use them. If you have measured the clearances correctly, a 165 shim would take the clearances to the middle of their tolerance. However, you must measure the shims that you have removed, as the size written on them is sometimes incorrect. So, go & get your calipers back! ![]() Cheers. I aint daft you know! ![]() One must measure the old shims correctly. For as I said, all manufacturers have a habit of scribbling the wrong size on them. I remember buying some brand new Kawasaki shims once, which measured 2.60mm, & were marked 270! Cheers. |

Some suggest they can be deformed by long service too, but I haven't noticed.
I've got about 30 shims here and they all measure within 0.01 of marked size. Your results may vary.
