Default Wiring a gear indicator

I would like a gear indicator for my zx10. I know I could get a plug &play one for about £70. But what are the chances of me getting a £4 eBay Chinese one to work? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...id=p2759.l1259
or

Although that one talks about 5 different wires for your 5 different gears. so that's not going to work - I just wonder if that's what the first one is like?

Why do you want a gear indicator? Senility setting in?

I'm used to one now 'cos my last bike had one.
They're great!
No need to count, no need to calculate, you just know instantly exactly what gear you're in.

So what does everyone else do? Do you count & remember in your head, or just not care what gear you're in so long as the revs are right? (sorry I just couldn't do that as it would do my head in)

At least 6th gear is easy as it's geared for 186 at 12K, so easy to remember.

Keep changing up 'til I run out of gears. Watch for that flicker of green from the neutral light on the way down through the gears. Everything in between is done on engine speed vs road conditions.
