The thread for 33 bhp discussion, with poll. Please vote because I'm interested to see just how many riders actually agree with it. If you do vote, please let us know how old you are and when you passed your test, and if you took Direct Access or did the 33bhp for two years thing.

Direct Access passed - 2000 I agree with a restriction of some sort for younger riders - when I was a teenager, all of my mates that had big bikes ended up throwing them down the road, some of them got pretty messed up. I know they can still do that now with a 33 bhp bike but I think they are more likely to do it with 133 bhp ![]()

i agree with it but i don't agree with the changes come 2011 with DAS and the restrictions.
It stops the numpties killing them selves above a ton and allows other to get out of trouble if they are causing it

im 21, been riding a yr.
and simple answer, no! they dont do it with a car so why a bike? unfortunately you are always gonna get the dix who speed and make dangerous maneuvers anyway, 33bhp doesnt really make any difference, and dangerous is dangerous regarding of what the power is, like i said im 21, i have had 8 cars, never had and accident or have any points on my license, and i've had a clio 172, audi TT, audi a3, golf gt tdi etc etc. its about the individual not the vehicle just my 2p worth |

No I don't agree with it, however the chances of them returning a freedom once removed is zero.
Only thing you could hope for is for it to be applied more fairly. I would advocate raising the limit to 50bhp or so (to allow GS500 and other reasonable starter bikes), applying it to all riders regardless of age and allowing people to accelerate access to a full license after passing an advanced riding type test. (I did the 33 test and found 33bhp a pain in the tits and wish they'd have let me get on with it. I've ridden stuff much more powerful and didn't die. I can now ride anything and am just as much of a c**t as I was before)

I'm 19, agree with restriction. Bike can still perform well enough for what i use it for, and allows me to get used to a larger bike without a massive leap in BHP from a 125. So in my mind it is a good decision at first at least, maybe an option to be able to get through restriction period quicker (other test or something) would be useful.

I've got no strong opinions on it. It seems to me that it is quite feasable to chuck ones self at the scenary or go rolling around on the tarmc with only a 125cc bike or a 50cc scooter.
Legislation doesnt solve these sorts of things, the way to deal with it would be through better training and teaching people to ride, rather than to pass a test. It is I feel what the test revamp was supposed to do, but our retard government have managed to mess that up as well... Perhaps it needs a bit of a shake up, but I am not in favour of a european / france style restriction of 100bhp I want my choice thank you very much and perhaps as Chris suggested a series of tests focusing on extra training, skills and education to unlock the power of bigger bikes is the way forward, trouble is that'll push the costs up... I'm 37, I did das, have been riding for 7 years. I went 125, full power SV, GSXR 750. The jump between each was mahoosive and I'm not so sure I would be alive now if I had got my GSXR-750 as a first bike...

On this forum there have been people who've been riding years that have crashed, me included, so how do you plan to stop that happening because there's no difference in a 18 yr old falling off or a 45 yr old falling off if both are doing 80mph |

Cobblers, people will fall off at 50 if they restrict bikes to that, they'll fall off at 120 if they limit bikes to that. Your argument is badly thought out
