Default Selling my car. Advice needed!

So the buyer saw the car, test driven it yesterday and agreed on the price.
He called me earlier that he has cash for me and as soon as he sorts out the insurance, he will come an collect it.

Problem is the bank is now closed and I can not pay the cash in until tomorrow morning. He seems a reasonable person buying the car for his young son but still is a private sale for about £4000 and I am worried about forged cash.

How shall I proceed? Is it ok to go ahead with common sense and pay the money in tomorrow morning? Who is supposed to send the V5 document to DVLA? Can I send it tomorrow after I have payed the money in? I still need to give him the V5C/2 bit. How do people go about this usually? Shall I take a copy of his ID?

He should be here in 1-2 hours so thanks for any input.

You are supposed to send the V5 slip, the only bit he keeps is the New Owner slip. I suppose you could also take his drivers license details on the V5, they aren't required but at least you'd have his information. As for sending the V5 off, theres no immediate rush, it takes a few weeks for it to be returned to the new owner.

With regards to the cash, its totally up to you, personally, we don't tend to take it to the bank, nor has anyone we've bought a vehicle off asked to meet at a bank to check it. My dad did once get money transferred directly to his account at a bank though in Isle of Man.

If you do decide to take the cash, just be vigilant. Keep an eye out for paper like money, and dont rush the counting or you could miss something. Personally, i would take £50s to the bank, but im a dab eye with £20s.

If u are unsure on notes try here:

http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/bankn...rent/index.htm

There is a PDF at the bottom which details all current security features etc. I use this at work, but to be honest most forgeries are pretty easily identifiable especially if you have a genuine one to compare with.

As above though, with £50s would be better taking them to the bank. Some smaller banks/building socities can also be 'funny' accepting a wad of £50's, but I used the Halifax a couple of years ago to pay in £2000 in Scottish £50's and they didn't bat an eyelid

Got it sorted. He only payed in £20 bills and they felt genuine enough to the touch. I got his ID details and still have the V5 Certificate in case the bank goes funny tomorrow which I'm sure it won't be the case.
