Almost 6 years ago I suffered a very mild stroke, just over the TIA threshold and into the lower end of proper strokes. This left me with some permanent damage to the muscles and nerves controlling my eyes and some residual problems with feeling and sensation in my left arm and hand that the consultant Neurologist told me might eventually be resolved but not to pin any hope on it.
Well today I was changing gear in the van and felt the gearstick properly for the first time since the day I collapsed at my mate's house in Feb 2005. I haven't a clue what happened or why the feeling has returned, or how it came back so suddenly or inexplicably. I had no warnings, no shivers, pins and needles or anything like that, which was what I had been told to expect if it was going to happen - it just came back. 20 seconds before I'd changed gear from second to third and felt nothing, put the van into fourth and felt the gear-knob... weirdness. My arm feels really tired though, despite the rest of me feeling as fresh as a daisy. I suppose I'm going to have to break it in to normal life again (and it's back to sitting on it to make it feel numb and like someone else's again... booo, hiss) On the plus side I can now eat a bag of crisps without smashing them to bits before I get a chance to eat a couple of whole ones. |

Good news - pleased to hear you have the feeling back!
My son slashed his foot very deeply on holiday trod on a flint in the sea - we are told that there's nerve damage in his foot and that the nerves regrow at the rate of either 1mm a month, or 1mm per year, I can't remember which tbh, but it does seem that it can take an awfullly long time for nerves to recover! Hearing that you're getting sensation back gives me hope that my boy's foot will eventually fully recover too. |
