Hi, my k4 wouldnt allow me to change to 6th gear. Wondering if the guy i bought the bike from has downshifted the gears. Would a new gearbox solve the problem?

yeah im doing 1 down and supposedly 5 up on my shifts. but the bike wont shift up after 4th/5th gear. Wondering if a new gearbox would fix the problem as im pretty sure the previous owner downshifted the gears to get better acceleration. Would there be anything else worth checking?

Firstly check, adjust and lube the chain.
I would doubt anyone would change the box unless racing. Is it a SV400 by anychance?

nah cant be a 400 im definitely sure its a sv650s k4. Tried maxing it out the other day could only sadly do 115 mph and i was going downhill so something is definitely wrong. Just not too sure what. :s

Like i said before the chain may not be at the correct slack.
If it is too tight or 5th and top are absolut gits to get into. It the opposite when too loose the downshifts are hard to get right without false neuterals

got any pics of the bike?
Whats the pick up like in first? It makes no logical sense that anyone would adjust the gear ratios using the gear box when sprocket adjustments would surfice and be a quater of the cost. PLus I wouldnt have thought a new gearbox would have cost you 6th gear. Like Andrew said, check your chain and lube situation out may be something really simple like a bent gear link rod. Basic stuff first before too much panic--------- Lube the gear lever where it pivots around the footrest.this area corrodes and gets sticky with age(don't we all)and can cause all manner of selection issues.
