a few dyno runs and HP output
but not a sv insight though watched a mobil dyno a standard mark 1 bandit 12 1997 vintage 27k on clocks with only a after market end can, and it was putting out 116HP at the rear wheel, well above what most people say they put out,but no real surprise to me other results as i remember them ducati 748 101hp (in heron suzuki colours barrey sheene rep,why would you do this on a ducati) old gsx750 track bike 140hp bmw s1000rr 175hp (mcn say these put out 190hp at the rear wheel LOL) 02 r1 160hp 06 r6 102hp (131hp claimed at the crank) the dyno man says you can loose about 10+hp from the crank hp that most bike hp are mearsured in, so the 116hp bandit would put out about 126hp at the crank Last edited by suzukigt380paul; 17-07-11 at 10:03 PM. |

Iv never understood why a crank measurement means anything, surely all that really counts is what you can get to the wheel?
Or have i missed a vital point. Feel free to educate me. |

It is how the manufacturers measure the engine while it is in development/testing.
The only way to get a 100% accurate dyno figure is on a proper engine dyno, that means taking the engine out of whatever its fitted to and bolting the crank direct to the machine. Beleive it or not even tyre pressures can have an effect on the reading form a rolling road, too soft and the tyre deforms too much wasteing energy as heat from all the flexing, too hard and the contact patch becomes too small causing skidding on the rollers. |
