![]() ![]() This is NASA's old research satellite that is expected to come crashing down through the atmosphere on Saturday, Australian time. (AP Photo/NASA) Source: AP FRAGMENTS from an old NASA satellite are hurtling towards Earth, while the exact site of the crash-landing remains a mystery. The Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS), which weighs more than five tonnes, is expected to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere at 1058 AEST tomorrow. NASA said on its website the satellite would re-enter "sometime during the afternoon or early evening of September 23 (US time)". "It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any more certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 24 hours." Basically they haven't a clue when or where it's going to land, but Chris will be scouting the Pennines for: " The surviving chunks of the tour-bus sized UARS, which launched in 1991, will include titanium fuel tanks, beryllium housing and stainless steel batteries and wheel rims. " Anything else will disappear into the melting pot. Best of luck with it Chris & expect to see it on the road before Christmas. ![]()
