Default The new thread button seemed strangely appropriate!

BBC news today had this article and it is beautiful, although certain Scottish Police Ladies are advised to look with caution!

New silk robes made from spun silk from the Golden Silk Orb. This must have taken some work and patience!

So, 560 man years of collecting spiders and harvesting silk, to make a scarf. And it looks just like kevlar.

I note with interest that the bite from one of the animals is rather painful and the venom is quite nasty, I did wonder how many people got hurt when the poor creatures were harnessed up for silk extraction. Ever reliable Wikipedia said that the animals were harnessed and silk was extracted until they were exhausted, so I do worry that there was possibly a cruelty issue involved. Would love to see one of these beautiful animals up close though.

How do you harness a spider? I am imagining catching it with a little tiny bridle just like a tiny pony.
