Default Newby questions, plz help!

Hi,

I have just bought my first track bike, a sv 650 1999, and looking to start track days.

It has had all the clocks removed, will i need a rev counter for when the track day guys do the dB limit checks as they normally do it at 6,000 rpm.

If i will need one, what is a decent after market gauge, i have seen the sunpro gauges, any good?

And also is it possible to get an 'on-board' lap timer that you can operate from the handlebars?

Thanks in advance, sorry if these seem stupid questions

I have a track bike with no rev-counter, this has lead to a series of negotiations with the DB testing guys at track days but have not yet had an issue getting out. Just make sure the can has a baffle and some packing in it, one of the cans I had was without padding and was a lot louder than we thought when it came to measuring time!

In effect any cheap rev counter that goes up to 12,000 or so will be fine, generally they take a feed from the front coil.

If you want a cheap lap timer consider a decent GPS unit for a phone that updates more than the standard phone GPS (The number of Hz is important in this instance). Alternatively some people have taken a cheap watch and just wired the "lap" button on the watch to the horn button on the bike. Total cost: next to nothing

There are "better" solutions out there if you fancy spending some money.
