Default Speed Camera - advice needed

It's probably been on here before but I couldn't find anything definitive.

I was flashed by GATSO last night (in the car) - as I approached it. In other words, it was pointing at me and is intended to catch people going in the opposite direction.

There were lines marked out on the other carriageway but not on mine. I'm sure I was hardly over the limit (if at all) and the damn thing went off.

Normally (on the bike) I wouldn't be concerned - no front number plate. But as I was in the car I'm starting to wonder whether I can be done using the lines from the opposite carriageway to calculate my speed.

Fraser? Anyone?

where? I'm Hayes also. 312? Anyway you've nothing to worry about if they weren't dragons teeth on your side of the road since the old Speed=Distance/Time needs a calibrated distance to prove your wrong doing.

This was in Harefield. Definitely no lines on MY side of the road - although there are on the opposite carriageway.

I'm just worried that they could get their ruler out and extend the lines across the photo to prove my speed or summat.

I'm sure the safety camera unit has more than enough pictures to process before needing to resort to such drastic measures. Besides that'd be evidence tampering surely.

Worry more about whether it's gonna rain later

You're quite safe, it only works (legally) on the side of the carraigeway it's intended for. So relax .

You won't be prosecuted as Gatso's can only accurately (and even then not so) take speed readings from vehicles heading away from it. Additionally, there were no calibration lines on your side of the road so they could never prove beyond reasonable doubt that you were speeding which they need to do to form a case against you.

Forget about it

Thanks all. I'll forget it.

If an NIP turns up though, you guys are gonna be the first to hear about it!

I've seen an ad in one of our motorcycle magazeines we have and I believe there is this clear spray you can purchase that you apply over the plate. It is suppose to make it so when the camera takes the snap shot of the bike that it blurs and glares the image resulting in an undetermined image of the plate.

It doesn't work and is illegal anyway. However, if you find that it does...
