Default Fully Comp or TPFT...

for a K1? Read somewhere that it isn't worth insuring a bike for Fully Comp thats over a couple of years old. The reason I ask is that the insurance is due soon and was toying with going Fully Comp. Any views gratefully received!

You pays yer money and makes yer choice. It depends how much the difference in premium is compared to the value of your bike. Then factor in the extra you would pay next time if you ever made a claim for damage to your bike.I've got comp, but it does'nt cost me much extra.

My Curvey is fully comp, just for my peace of mind really.

I know I wont get full value for it if it gets written off, but then something is better than nothing IMHO

Thanks. Will give it some thought. Fortunately never dinted anything (now watch me drop it!) or had a claim (I'm tempting fate here, I can feel it) just that spare bits can be costly. Lucky that insurance is piddly anyway.

You've got to weigh up the difference in premiums against the costs incurred if you have to mend / replace your bike due to accident thats your own fault.

Personally, I've always had Fully Comp & never needed it <looking around for something made of wood to touch>

As has been mentioned in other threads - you can always bring the cost of a Fully Comp premium down by upping the excess you're willing to pay.

Ouch. Mine's a quid more a month than Big Ape's but I guess he's been riding longer than me and/or has a garage. It's probably an indicator of my age and gender - sometimes pays to be a girlie

There's a lot of costs to be weighed up... You need to incur a pretty severe claim to make it worth claiming once you've got a couple of year's no-claims- you'll have your excess to cover first of all, and then you need to consider that you'll both lose your no claims, and have to declare the event to any future insurers if they ask for it, which is likely to weight your premium still more.

I've got mine fully comp, but only because it's got so much additional value tied up in it. When it was relatively stock, I was third party, but now I could do enough damage to make it worth claiming by dropping it in a car park Remember to make absolutely sure that if it's modded, the mods are going to be covered.
