Default trip meter question

1999 nekkid curvy:
Does the trip meter only hold its reading while the bikes ignition is on?
Eg: I zero the trip meter when I fill up with fuel so I know how far I have done on a tankful.
But, if I switch the ignition off before I fill up again then the next time I switch on it has gone back to 0... is this normal?
Never ad this problem with manual trip meters in the old days, mutter mutter, modren electrickery, mutter moan.. dammit me pipes gone out....
Adam.

No that is definately not normal. It should keep the mileage until you decide to reset it.

What he said!
check all connections to fuses an batteries are tight, and all fuses are happy as a starting point.

There's a permanent live feed to the clocks, specifcally to keep the trip alive, it rather sounds like it's not there.

I can't remember what colour it is, but the wiring diagram should make it clear. If you can't work it out, ask again I'll have a squint at the wiring.

Didn't realise that. If the feed is straight from the battery, it will be the red wire. There are two connectors on the naked for the instruments. The larger with 6 wires should have the +ve feed from the battery. The earth feeds are on the other connector block. They are one on top of the other (black, white trace.) Check your 10A fuses.

Indeed, was forgetting I have a K2 front loom on my K1.

Now that caused a few headaches when wiring a K3 clock in
