Default Attitude towards the SV has changed

10 months ago i was over the moon to get the SV and spent a lil money making itlook and sound more sporty. Thought i would keep it for quite a while but the past few weeks i just keep thinking it is time to move on and try an IL4....a ZX6R or something like a VFR new model but whatever it will be needs to be kept for a good few years.....wifey says so
I know the SV is a budget bike and it does not matter how nice i make it look it will always be a budget bike so rather than throw more money into it to sort suspension out and some other things i just feel i want to try something else other than a V Twin. I just feel the bike is lacking for me in some areas but having said that it has been a great bike so far to gain experience and have some pretty good fun
Just wondering how many have used or are using the SV as a stepping stone to something different once you have some good riding technique under your belt. If so what did you or are you planning to move onto?

I bought the SV as a stepping stone to a bigger bike. I wanted something that I could use to improve my riding and build up my experience and no claims bonus on.

I kept my SV for two years and then upgraded to a GSXR-750. I've still got my SV for a winter hack though.

I still think the SV is faster than I am though.

Yep i agree that the sv is faster than me too
I am just surprised how my plans on the bike have changed so much as i always thought the SV would be enough for me for several years at least.

I have had my sv from new (Dec 2000) and still ride it today. I would love another bike, but to be honest, i havent found anything i like. Plus its hard justifying £6k+ for a bike that mainly gets used for commuting. I also couldnt justify having a 2 bike scenario.

So if the SV is still faster than you why change it?

The money you'll spend extra on buying another bike you could spend on upgrading weak points on the 650. I know you'll not get that investment back but neither do you on the depreciation. I'm sure some folks on here know the feeling of beating "quicker" bikes on our lowly Sv's.

I have a list of other reasons but if i was to be honest with my self i want to try something totally different to a twin and see if i would prefer to live with one of em. A few test rides might be an idea or even hire a bike for a day

I must admit I bought my SV as a stepping stone but I still love it and if possible when I upgrade I will keep the SV.

Certainly some people prefer a four and vice versa. If you,ve never experienced one then I guess you should. Haven't you got a mate who you can swap bikes with for the day? Even if it means adding it to your insurance. Gotta be cheaper than hiring.

TC3 - I'm in the same boat as you mate, I bought he SV in December 2004 thinking that I would keep it for 2-3 years and then move onto something a bit better/faster.

I love my SV to bits and have spent a small fortune on her.......but I just want something different I had a look at the K6 Gixxer 600 and it just seemed way to small for me, my knees where under my armpits and it was very cramped.

Mrs PC have given me permission to look at the Kawasaki Z1000 This is a totally different beast to the SV. Nakid and mental I'm going to blag a test ride from my local Kawasaki dealer to see if I can get on with a nakid bike.

Then the dilema is what to do with the SV, make it standard again and sell all the bits and just try and sell it like it is
