Default Anyone ever had a Honda NTV650 Deauville ?

Just been round to see a mate who has one languishing in his garage, under boxes, canoe's and a lawnmower. Last used properly 3 years ago, last started about 15 months ago when it went for MOT. The battery has been on an optimate the whole time, but I advised him against starting it up.
Anyway, he wants rid of it, £500 with a pleading look in his eye.
Anyone had one? Its a bit of a monster, I already have 3 bikes in the garage that I cant find time to ride, so I'm not going to bite his hand off - though sitting astride it I felt calm and relaxed, unlike the SV, where I just feel uncomfortable.
If its a bargain not to be missed, I'll get back round there, if not, I'll wait and see if he calls me..

Well I agree in principal, I'll have to get him to dig it out for a proper look. BUT, if it needs tyres for instance, and add in the MOT and a service cost then it may stop being cheap.
I'm keen to hear from anyone who's had one, tell me what they are like; after all it was called the Dullsville for most of its life..

Even if it needed new tyres and a service, it would still be cheap. Buy it and flog it and still make a profit.
It is reliable so it will still run fine if looked after.

It is a mini-pan mini-tourer. Heavy and low powered for what it is. But comfy and really good at doing miles. An SV will eat it alive in any race but if commuting and long distance is your thing...

Only has 55bhp and weighs 228kg compared to A SVs 71bhp and 171kg. A bit thirsty too. Although almost the same cc.

I remember when I went abroad and had to travel the 300 miles home on me SV. The Deauvilles never looked so good before.

Under that fairing is a courier bike that would go for a million miles on a sniff of fuel and a drip of oil. It's a solid, reliable, proven engine in a strong chassis with no frills - that's why it's called a Dullsville. But a £500, you could tour for ever on it and have the occasional slowish thrash with a load of luggage in those inbuilt panniers.

Cheers

Well if you don't want it. Tell him you know someone that does. I'll take it off his hands for £500.

Yeah I had one.

Did forty five thousand miles on it.

Quite excellent as a practical ride.

Nothing ever went wrong

Very economical (certainly more than the SV)

One of the only bikes on the market that is super comfortable over distance.

You don't buy it for scratching fun though.....

For £500 quid you get a bike that will last years??

Go for it

For £500 i'd have it off him. Ridden one for about 3000 mikes in total and it's just so easy to ride. Yeah it's heavy and it's not fast but they are very reliable and very comfy and there is no chain to adjust and lube !!!
