Wont start! HELP! Weird thing happend... Fuel Pump?

Hey guys,

I really need some help, let me tell you the story.

Girlfriend and I decided to go up through the mountains (about 45 min drive) on the SV650s (2002) Model Smiley
Everything was great until it started to rain, funny enough I was able to park the bike in a "shed" with the helmets and walk around the "town".

After waiting 45 min we decided to try and drive back home, through the mountains into he rain, we had just bought some ponchos at a store (ha).
We made sure the ponchos couldn't catch onto anything or touch anything "bad".

After about 15 minutes of driving the bike starts acting WEIRD. It seems that I am loosing power and RPM's.
If I give it more throttle I speed up (so I did). A little while later it slows down more, now when I give it more throttle the engine makes a slightly louder noise but speed does not increase, no more power is put to the wheel, and the RPM's don't go up. Even with full throttle it does this, the engine only gets slightly louder.

We'll we keep going trying to find shelter and we hit a hill, on this hill (not steep grade) we go down to 20mph in a 55mph, I cannot get anymore speed out of the bike, not even other gears. The RPM's do however go up when I downshift.

We'll when we reach the top of the hill we find some shelter, upon pulling in the bike DIES.

Don't worry (like you were jk)! we were only stuck for a hour, I had some friends come with a truck and pick us up.

Now when I try to start it, the starter turns but the engine does not start. If However I give it a lot of throttle at the same time it will start with VERY low 1> RPM's.
I can rev the engine but it doesn't sound right, the bikes revs continue to go down and then it stalls.

If I start it with the choke on the engine starts but very soon after it dies.

Now ever since I bought my bike (used) I have noticed sometimes if I give it a hard roll of the throttle it would sputter in the beginning and then the RPM's and power would go up (this was occasional). I thought it was just normal but I don't know if it could be related.
I also drove my bike for the first time without a helmet the other day and I noticed that the engine or some part down in front of me makes this weird noise (quite loudly) sort of like spinning a bicycle wheel with your hand (also I do not know if this is related).

I talked to a friend who used to deal with Suzuki's and he said he thought it was one of two problems. Either it was the fuel pump (I was then told by someone else that only fuel injected bikes have fuel pumps??) or that SV's are known for having bad spark plug connections and to check those.

Could the rain have had something to do with it? This is the first time I have actually rode in real rain... I baby my bike.

do a search on "front cylinder" or "running on one cylinder" or fender extender"

sounds like a known issue.
