Hospital visiting hours

My 20 yr old daughter is currently in the Royal Preston Hospital with complications relating to her pregnancy. Visiting hours are enforced.

3:30-5:30. No evening visiting. We have just phoned to see if we can visit after work.

No visiting is 3:30 to 5:30.

Bloody jobsworths, the lass will get no visitors. I thought hospitals were suppossed to be open all hours these days.

I know Tim when falc was in they were pretty strict with visiting it took us 2 hours to get in to see him one day when we were stuck in traffic and the bloody sister tried to chuck us out on time, i'd go in and appeal to the staff on duty and see what they say - sometimes if you deal with it face to face its better than dealing with some one on the phone

where i am they are pretty much open to all visitors from about 2 onwards.

i recently visited my sis, her visitors came and went as they pleased on the whole.

i reckon thats bound to be a jobsworth, if you were to visit outside those hours i'm fairly sure nobody will say owt.

When my other half went into labour the hospital staff were VERY helpful. Same as when my little lad had an operation on his nose (breathing issues).

When he had his op, we were told "these are the visiting times, I'm telling you this because if friends/family are coming it's a locked ward except for these hours, but this is the access code." I was also told that the ward my son was being looked after was a burns unit specifically for women, and as such, I wouldn't be allowed to stay overnight (but they didn't mind me leaving at midnight & coming back at 6am).

The ward staff phoned local B&Bs & everything for me, and then told me the results followed by "But keep this to yourself, I've cleared it for you to sleep in the parents room at the end of the ward." It wasn't the most comfortable sleep I've ever had, but at least I was there!

Greatest sympathies for your daughters complications, and assuming the father is present, the hospital staff should allow him to bypass the visiting hours rules. Even if he has to miss work, I'd rather a disciplinary at work than miss being at the hospital. If he's not (for any reason), surely a parent can step into his shoes. If one person is there, they can forward any news ASAP to the rest of the family. If the hospital staff can't bend the rules, I'd just go anyway to be honest.

Dont quote me on this but i think if it's a maternity ward the hours of visiting were always enforced and never broken, where as most general wards are pretty flexible...well its always been the case when ever ive had to make visits or be visited

That's rotten... When my ex was in hospital, I just went in whenever I could and damn the torpedoes... Most hospitals are pretty glad to have you there, since depressed patients are incredibly bad news. I did get thrown out once, but then I'd been there for about 3 hours. It just makes no sense though, where's the benefit to having a miserable patient? It's not as though they'll be doing regular procedures at 8pm, is it? If anything, visitors are most disruptive during the working day.

Long visiting hours are very depressing if nobody comes to see you, though If it's just 2 hours a day, you can say "Ah, they were all at work". But if they welcome visitors for 6 hours a day, then you've got no excuse. Happened to me one day, and even the old mental guy got a visitor

I found that to be true, expect for 1 specific visitor per patient. Usually the father of the child.

As northwind, if I'm going to visit someone, I'll go when I can (unless it's something like tim's situation, in which case I'd take a sleeping bag) and anyone that THINKS about stopping me will suffer thy wrath.

Generally hospital staff say "OK, but you can't stay long" once you kick up a big enough stink. Never failed yet, but the day it does, it'll be the police that are escorting me off the ward & into the back of a van.

But maybe that just me....
