I had a K3 650. Did 31,000 miles on it from new. Cracking bike.
As my first V-twin the engine braking made a phenomenal impression on me, I'll never forget locking the rear up on a down change on the A406 and next day seeing the big, black mark I'd left. I now have a K6 650. I've done 450 miles on it. Suzuki definetly seemed to have improved the fuel injection as it is very smooth, even at low speeds. My question - Does the K6 650 come with a back torque limiter device? I ask this because this bike does not have the engine braking of its predecessor. No matter how clumbsy I try to be, the back wheel responds with no more then a mere twitch. I know that this should be viewed as a good trait but I can't help but feel that this, taken together with the improved fuel injection, makes the bike very docile meaning it can now rightfully be referred to as "chick-wheels". The seat is also lowered and the position less sporty. |

As the k6 is my first sv and first real bike (I had a MZ hair-dryer before, but i was mostly trying to get that to move, rather than to slow down) I couldn't really tell you, I've been told it has great engine breaking, but its all ive seen, so can't really tell. you never know, your bike may have just been delivered with the correct TSP level see here, apparently that reduces the engine breaking, but makes up for it with tht extra kick at low revs.

I can lock the rear up on my K6 changing down the box no problems.
My bank manager shouts at me if I do it though ![]() |

Dunno about the K6 but the K5 rear wheel can still be easily locked under down-shifting - just ask Ollie, who was behind me at one point on the South / North run!
I thought the rear-wheel lock up could only be prevented by a slipper clutch though? Or is that the same thing as a back-torque limiter? Or am I just a simpleton?* *Delete as appropriate ![]() |

I am prepared to bet a whole scottish pound note that the clutch is the same, or fundamentally the same, as every previous SV.

I don't know about the differences between various pointies, but I took a k6 out for a test ride a week or so ago, and it had a *lot* less engine braking than my '98 sv400 - which I found surprising. I assumed it was to do with fuel injection vs carbs...?

The smoothness may well be the TPS being correctly adjusted. Are you sure you're not just a better rider ,and can blip the throttle better so stopping the back locking?
I did find I was making the rear skip a lot on a curvy I rode as a courtesy bike, but I think there was something wrong with that as it was very hesitant to rev with a blip so I was dumping the clutch with hardly any revs. Made for the odd interesting corner ![]() |

Before I did the TPS on mine it was like a bucking bronco. Now it's smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth
