Default Iron Maiden's latest tour

Has anyone else seen them on their latest tour?

I saw them last thursday and was absolutely gutted They played their new album from start to finish then only played a few of their older songs, which I really wanted to hear If I wanted to hear their new album I would buy it and put it in the CD player They do put on a good show but it really wasn't what I expected

On the plus side Trivium were superb as support act

It's just wrong isn't it? Every other band I've seen on a new album tour have played some off the new album but loads of old stuff too and that's what I expected. How wrong I was!

You can't live in the past.

Iron Maiden are producing new albums and not living off their previous recordings.

They have a new album to promote and this is what the tour is for.

How can you expect a band with a back catalogue the size of Iron Maiden's to play ALL their 'greatest' hits. They would be on stage for 4 hours. If you want to hear them and nothing else, go see some second rate tribute band who make their parasitic living playing The Trooper and Run To The Hills.

Put yourselves in their shoes. How would you feel if your 'fans' didn't give a flying f@*^ for your new material, but just wanted the tracks from your 'famous past'.

How much time was devoted to new tracks on the Death on The Road tour?

The Brave New World tour had 6 or 7 songs from that album played. Not one person whinged then that I recall.

Think back to Metallica's Black album tour. How many tracks were played from that? No complaints there either.

I wasn't saying that I didn't give a F**k about their new stuff because it's good! There's nowt wrong with it and they do give a good show. I would just have preferred to hear the new stuff alongside a bit more of their old stuff and not just played the entire new album, that is what I didn't like about the concert that's all! I didn't expect a 4 hour show and all their greatest hits, but I sure as hell didn't expect a track-by-track run through of their new album. Sorry but it just wasn't what I expected.

I see exactly where you're coming from, but the vast majority of fans who go to gigs want to see bands playing the old favourites, coupled with a few from the latest album. The 'old' favourites come not from a range of albums from the first right through to the latest.

Maiden are seasoned professionals and should know that the audience want to see them play some of their older material. There are countless artists who've died on tour because they tried to concentrate on only their newer material at the expense of the favourites on tours.

Poor old Steve's played Run To The Hills 10 million times, no wonder he's sick of it Look at it this way, they can be AC/DC and basically play nothing but the old stuff, and the occasional new song which is completely indistinguishable from the old stuff, or they can do this, like most bands do. The first tour after a new album's traditionally the one to miss since that's where bands play too much off the new album and miss out better, older songs.

The last time I saw Maiden was when they were touring only the first 4 albums. Bruce Dickinson seemed to suggest at the time that they'll be doing this sort of thing for the later albums too- so it could be you're seeing the side effects of that- one tour like a band without 40 albums would do, and then another tour for the old stuff. Personally I would have exchanged half of the stuff they played at Reading for Paschendale or Brave New World. Old Maiden might be the best Maiden, but that doesn't mean all old Maiden is any good.
