My son's SV650S1 (10/2003) was stolen, dumped in the Torrens River and recovered the next day.
The thieves broke the ignition switch and top clamp and blew the fuse in a failed attempt to start it. I dismantled, cleaned and dried bits as needed. No water got into the engine or fuel tank. The new parts took a long time to come from Japan. Reassembled, all seems fine. It turns over but won't start, Does anyone know if I need to bleed the fuel system, if the tank has been off for a long time? If so, how is this done? Thanks for any suggestions. (Its not like working on the T250 of my youth). Best wishes, Ian |

It can take a while for the fuel to prime the carbs if they are all drained out. Have you drained the carbs as they could have water in there.. Have you checked that you are actualy getting sparks from the plugs?

I'd drain the fuel tank and the carbs. Take the plugs out and turn the engine over.

Thanks Razor and TSM, it started eventually, a bit rough at first, but now seems smooth again. I guess I just didn't realise how much cranking it would take to getting it going from dry. Adelaide is having drought breaking rain at present, even floods in some inland areas, so I am not included to do a test run just yet. Cheers, Ian

Glad you've got it going again, if it's raining that hard you may want to use some silicone grease around the front HT lead or fit a fender extender to stop water getting in there and stopping the front sparking next time it's out for a run, it's a fairly well documented SV feature
