Default Newbie has a question!

Hi all!

Just found this site and very helpful it looks too! I'm just about to join the elite club of SV owners so wonder if I could ask a few questions?

Just been to see a 2005 SV650S Black with full fairing, DB screen, hugger, Feul can, tail tidy, 5000 miles, 1 owner, good condition, not mint but no scratches or marks to note.. He wants £3200 no offers, does this sound ok?

It's due a service as last one was done just over a year ago, how much am I looking at for the service? Is there anything else I should be looking for, ie a common fault on these?

Sorry for all the questions but I don't know much about Suzuki's or any bike come to think of it! Any help much appreciated!

Nick

Me personally would only give £3000.00 max if he won't budge on the price then look else where. there's plenty around if you look hard enough!

And welcome to the forum

Check that it had it's first service done at about 600 miles, and that it has had one more service since then at about 4000 miles or one year after the first one.It makes a difference to the value if it is an early 05 or late,as the warranty runs for two years from new(if those services were done)so is it still in warranty and for how long?Check consumables for wear(tyres brakes and chain) as these are a cost item to factor in.If you are paying for a dealer service I think £170 usually covers it,maybe less if you shop around.Guessing that it will soon need tyres,£170? I would say that price is a bit high, but it sounds like a "sound" bike.I would decide what it is worth to you, make an offer accordingly and stick to it.Take no notice of "no offers",it's your money so he can take it or leave it.

Hi Nick,

Welcome.

I would say if the extras are fitted properly and he has the old bits to give you, plus the bike is exactly what you want, ie, you don't want to change any of the add ons I'd go for it.

Link to a service place not too far from you.

If it's been standing for a year or so, then maybe a few quid on top of the price to free a few sticky things.

Put it like this, my immaculate ex-SV (mint K5 '55' in blue, 4K, standard apart from hugger, heated grips, seat cowl, and tail tidy is priced at £3399 at the dealer who took it off me in PX and they've had no interest whatsoever at that price, which includes 3 months warranty, full MOT, full service before collection.

They reckon they'll have to knock it down to 3K to sell it.

Thanks to all for the comments and the welcome

I must admit it's exactly what i'm after, the right colour and all the mods I would want to do.. I think i'll make an offer of £3k and leave it there if he doesn't go for it. As people have said there are plenty out there and I can add my own mods in time. It's had two services and is due another which will be my reasoning for knocking off £200.

Will let you know the outcome..

The bike has been sold, someone turned up after me and bought it!

Oh well, plenty more out there!

Unlucky.

Goes to show how much stronger the market is in the affluent south. WRCsixtythree's bike sat in dealers not selling and this one virtually flying out the door.

At least you've got an idea of the values now. That 200quid you've saved might be soon used up on fruitless trips to inappropriate bikes. Remember it's the time of year people are thinking of getting on the road so competition for good bikes might be fierce.

Keep us posted.

Good hunting
