Spent the last 2 hours accumulating info from all search results returning info on chains and sprockets but had a couple of questions left over; I was wondering if someone could enlighten me....
Need a new set after my OEM ones are now knacked at 15.5k miles, mostly because this last winter was the only one where I got lazy and neglected the bike ![]() 1: I'm going for a 15/46 on the S after deciding that I want more acceleration, and this should (from what I understand) be slightly less harsh than 14/45 and will put less stress through the chain. 2: Steel sprockets all the way for longevity, and the choice is now between full steel Renthals or the natty looking Supersprox ones with the anodised aluminium in the hub but steel teeth. 3: X-ring/O-ring seem to be neither here nor there from what people say (though quite why they bother with 2 types then I'm not sure) though possibly erring for X-ring 'cos they're a bit more heavy duty? So it's likely to be Renthal/Supersprox with a DID/Tsubaki gold chain. Gonna get it done at the garage 'cos I don't feel confident enough/have some of the tools (breaker bar and rivet tool) to do it myself. The only thing I can't find an answer to is the chain length..... I'm a little confused about what the 520, 525 etc. chain classification means because it isn't chain length. Is it width? And if so, which one would I need on the 15/46 setup? Also, I understand a 108 link chain is standard, and Baph went for 15/46 and said it was doable but very tight. Should I stick with 108 then...would 110 be a bit too loose? So many chains to choose from on Demon Tweeks/B&C/M&P, little difficult to pick which one I need with all the different codes on them. If there's anything else I should bear in mind/I've overlooked then please let me know ![]() Cheers in advance guys, Duncan EDIT: p.s. if anyone has a lower fairing fitting kit K3 650 lurking about that would come in damn handy, though I'm putting a note in Stuff Wanted as well Last edited by MeridiaNx; 09-05-07 at 04:34 PM. |

Aha, now I know what all the digits in a 525 chain refer to, only left wondering about the thickness of sprockets and whether a pointy has the same stick chain as a curvey.
Any more input also on ideal chain length for a 15/46 setup on a pointy: 108 or 110 links? |

I have a 15/47 on my pointy. The chain was a 525 with standard length chain (110 links IIRC for the pointies).
It only just fit mind, but you're going 15/46 so it should be a little easier. HTH. |
