Well- as I used to drive a car, I had a parking space at the office- under cover. Lovely.
Just been informed by HR that I'm losing it (it was coming at some point) and have to park with all the other bikes (Oh No!) in the alloted space. The alloted space is a small (ie local supermarket car park size) single car parking space. There are 4 bikers at work at the mo- one is in 2 days a week, the others all week. So, normally there are 3 bikes crammed into this space, which is tight as they have to park longways in it. Though, this apparently is adequate space for 3 bikes and the space is too small for a car (it isn't- plenty of space as long as it's not a big wide saloon), so they won't let us have the end space where you could get 4 bikes parked sideways in the space (ifyerknowwhatimean). Apparently, there's a bit of space elsewhere, near the bins where another bike can go. As I turn up early in the day, I'll get a place in this tiny space, so I'm not losing any priveledges (they can't do that, apparently). Car parking spaces are alloted in respect to seniority then length of service. There are a lot of 'managers' in HR. Funny that, isn't it. And guess who's got my old car parking space? Yep- the new HR manager. Isn't it uncanny that, though I've been using the space for my bike for, oh, nearly 7 months, that suddenly, the new policy has arrived. Quelle surprise. Another reason to feel serious disdain for HR depts in general. If someone had brought it up before and made reasonable allowances (there are plenty of long time serving staff on the waiting list for a space) and not told me informally and verbally today that it was going to happen (it would have been nice to have been asked). There'll be a few people causing a stink next week, methinks... I wonder what they'll do when more people bike to work? With their apparently Green focus on policies? |

HR---the bane of the modern workplace.
Known as "Human Remains" in my firm. You might gather we seriously hate them too. ![]()

What would've happened if you'd smiled sweetly and said "OK, I'll start coming in my car again, thanks for letting me know"?...

Park it in someone's way, or so it makes life difficult for someone.
After a while, someone will get fed up, and will revert it back to how it was, or allocate a 2nd car space. |

Trouble is, my car was written off in a crash in December, weeks before my DAS!!!
I'm planning on getting a runabout next year, so I can be mobile with guitar/amp/bass etc, hiking and possible climbing too (so lots of kit to kart about). Apparently, I'll have to joing the waiting list for a space again. We only moved into the office 19months ago and already we've outgrown it. Nice long term planning, that... Some members of our HR team are great- mainly out training guy (called Guy! Wow), but the HR Head seems to be one of those mutton dressed as bints with their heads in the clouds full of constantly wooly thinking. Still- they're onto a winner there anyway. By the way- what DO HR people actually DO for their hardly earned wages? |

They write endless policy documents which are specifically designed to screw up peoples working lives and make everything twice as difficult as it needs to be.They advise management on how to really hack off the workforce so as to totally undermine staff morale and thus cause catastrophic business failure. They are experts in the blame game whereby they deflect blame onto those who can't defend themselves and then advise management on how to sack them within the law. This in turn leads to a further spiral of sinking morale and business failure.Parasites is the word that springs to mind.

And unfortunately, our new HR manager seems to be a completely over competetive person with a potentially nasty streak twisted into it. Now, I don't really know her well enough to judge her at the moment, but sometimes, you get a gut feeling and let's just say I'm going to be VERY careful what I do and say near her. The guard is up.
But fortunately, my boss is our Responsible Person and is 100% supportive and trustworthy nd I've got 5 years invested in the place with a good reputation, so I should be OK. |

before they re allocate your space, get one of those flip up bollards you can get for your drive ways, go in one night install it and hey presto no one but you can use the space!! LOL. If they want it removed tell them they have to go on the waiting list for a responce!!
