Default ASM you were right...

Now listen up ASM. You will most likely never hear this from me ever again...

You were abolutely and utterly correct when you said:

Quote:
Jon dont get the CBR 600 RR, stick with the Hornet
I rode the SV back home and am now in the worst mood cause it sucks. Apologies to all you SV fans but i'm only telling it like it is.

My initial thoughts and comparison is as follows:
  • Where is the power? The CBR has the same power (maybe a little more) at low RPM, but when you rev it up you get a massive power surge.
  • Where are the breaks? So there I was throwing the bike down the motorway and all of a sudden I needed to break hard. Problem was, the bike didn't stop. There was also very little feedback from the breaks.
  • The fairing on the SV is an afterthought and although it does offer some protection from the wind it is no where near as good as the CBR.
  • Why do I get blown around so much on the SV? On the CBR you can overtake trucks, lorries and coaches without even feeling the wind coming off of other vehicles. On the SV I get blown about by every car on the road.
  • Ride position...horrid
So all in all I hate my SV and I want an IL4. Preferably a GSXR 750.

Jon

PS - I reserve the right to bitch and moan about the SV every time we meet from here on in.

considering the CBR600RR costs two thirds more than the SV i'd be shocked if it wasn't a marked leap better quality...

Whilst I agree with your comments to a point, and indeed sold my SV due to being so dammed uncomfortable, I thought the Hornet engine was pants compared. It was like draggining against a bungee that would suddenly snap, versus the smooth and predictable delivery of the SV engine.

To be clear. The reason that I should have kept the hornet (as a hire bike whilst mine was being fixed) is because I would really appreciatte the SV after riding the hornet for a while. Riding the CBR for the last 3 months has ruined me for the SV.

Give the SV some time, its not that bad really is it? Maybe you had a bad riding day/it was windy?

At the end of the day a CBR(or any other modern sports bike) is always going to be better than a SV. Brakes, suspension.....its all more expensive.

Personally i would say keep at it and you may fall back in love with the SV. If you do chop it in now, you'll probably only realise £3000 and thats not much more than you will get for it, if you sell it after you've had it for a year.

Up to you though really.

Also i'm not sure i would want to use a CBR/R6 etc, for high mile commuting!

Been there , done that! I had a test ride on a CBR600RR when I had my SV, I couldn't go back! Sell the SV immediately.. Life is too short, get the bike you want!

Lets go bike shopping tomorrow!

Yup. It's what I told Sam when she had a go on my Gixer, and Law when he was looking at test rides on Gixers and CBR's.

If you think you might like one, and you ride one it will ruin the SV for you.

I loved my SV, it was great and brought me into biking and gave me loads of confidence and great times. But it's not a £7000 bike, and it shows in comparison.

Unfortunately I wont be selling the SV for at least another 6 months as I want to wait for my first years no claims and hopefully my IAM certificate to reduce insurance costs.

Went for a ride with Nick today and am still feeling rather negative about the SV but hopefully I can use the next 6 months to hone my skills, sort my cornering out and put a load of commuting miles onto it.

I reckon that if I can master cornering on the SV then cornering a GSXR 750 will be a sinch!

I can't afford a supersports 600 at the moment, and I think the negativity I'm feeling for my SV is making my riding terrible. I'm also very concious that I have to muscle the SV round corners.

I've had more errors on the SV this year and that's another reason why I want to change, nagging doubts in the back of your mind aren't great while riding, saying that getting a SS600 prob won't improve my riding.
