Default Question for anyone.......

In the summer in my company car I hit a deer, it nearly wrote my works car off and was fixed through the insurance.

The car is a lease car leased to the company and NOT me.
The car is not registered to me.
The insurance is not in my name, but the companies.
The claim has no effect on my personal insurance NCD, as i dont hold insurance for the specific car, I only hold insurance to drive ANY works car.
There is nothing to link me to the car on any documents.

Now when i renew my bike insurance, should this claim be declared?

No, you don't benefit from the works NCD when you renew, so why should you declare the accident.

I wouldn't tell them BUT...

When you phone for a quote, don't they ask " have you been involved in an accident in the past X years?"

If so, and you answer no, and your insurer found out (unlikely) couldn't it invalidate your insurance...?

Having said all of that, if there is nothing to link the claim to you personally, I wouldn't disclose that information...

Mind you, do you still have to report hitting a deer to the police? Or am I thinking that up..? If so, the insurers may be able to trace you through the police incident report...again unlikely...

I comprehensively totalled a works Fiat Punto back in 1998, and when I renewed that year I told my insurance company and they weren't interested in the slightest. Same story right up until 2002 when I stopped bothering to mention it, with three different insurers.

You will be on file somewhere as the driver at the time of the accident.

I had two big crashes in the company car (not my fault) declared on personal car insurance and bike, made no difference. Reason I declared it is they know up front and cannot use it to wriggle out of a claim on my personal insurances if I need to make one.

The reason they will give is that you having been involved in an accident is a material fact that affects their assessment of the risk.

Nope only dogs apparently.

They only time i ever gave personal information was to the insurance assessor which was details of the accident, where, when, how.

I dont really want to do anything that would jepordise me or a third party in a future claim, but the car isnt in my name, the insurance isnt in my name, The lease isnt in my name.... its all abit confusing really, and obviously i dont want to ask the question directly to the insurance company.
