Default New Laptop - Please help me choose the right one

My laptop keeps breaking and pc world have said I cannot have my money back, but I can have any of their laptops to replace it. It cost £400 new so that's how much I get to spend on the new one.

All I use it for is browsing the net and online gaming. I'm not that bothered about vista, I'm quite happy with xp pro (which I have on cd).

So does anyone have any idea what one is the best for the money? Cos I don't have a scooby. I suppose I could spend an extra £50 or something if it meant I got a better laptop...

Any help appreciated

heres the PC world website

If you can stretch to it the Tosh A200-15I at £500 may be your best bet. Tosh's used to be good laptops. Don't get an Advent if you can help it. That is what I am on now and it is a bag of nails.

Whatever you do avoid Advent or Packard Bell.

I have just had to replace my desktop and bought it from PC World, The problem is they will only sell you Vista unless it is for business users, but if you have XP Pro it seems like you are sorted

I would go for a Tosh or Compaq. If you could get your money back (may need Ed on the case). I personally would go for a macbook. for surfing, email and word proceesing they are excellent as they simple do what they are supposed to do

+1 on the macbook front.
I get sick of having to constantly 'fix' my pc. Even the Tosh's are made to a budget now and consequently just fall to pieces.

I have an Acer so can highly recommend them.
When I was looking round for a laptop about 2 years ago, I was also looking at the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo notebook as that and the Acers always seemed to get good reviews in the PC Press.

I notice the Acers on PC Worlds website are £529 (ish) whilst the Fujitsu is £449.

HTH,
Pete
