Hi all. I am new to this site. I have my wonderful little baby that i have been riding to work on but unfortunately got caught in a heavy down pour one day & the water was riding high on the road.
Since then my poor Jasper(yellow sv650 pride & joy) seems to struggle on normal tick over, cuts out a little or when i go to pull off it cuts out unless i turn the choke on a little. When riding it has always had great back firing on throttle closed but it now does it when cruising at 30mph. It is just barping, banging etc. It really sounds & feels very ropey. I have taken both plugs out which are about a month old & clean them both. Please help ![]() Corina |

Sounds like you have water in the front plug or a sticking choke plunger/cable!

Without burning yourself check if the front head is warm, if its wet front plug the header will be cold.
WD40 down the plughole and up the drain hole helps excess water run out. What did the plugs look like? If its missing like that then the front may show being fuel wet? Chris

Hi & thanks for all the info.
Yorkie Chris - The top plug under the tank was clean. The front one which was an absolute PAIN to get out was dry but very black & needed some cleaning. With ref to water in the front head/plug. It was well over a month ago she got wet. Would the water not have eveporated by now & with me starting her & trying to run her, again would the water not have gone. ? Spanner man the parrot man - thanks for the info. I have a very good friend coming over at the w/e and he has agreed to check out your suggestions. Thankyou all for the help. I will update you as i go. |

To add to parrot man's sound advice there is a drain hole in the filler cap recess. This drains water that leaks into the cap down through a tube welded through the tank to a drain hose at the back. This drain hose can get kinked or blocked leaving water sat there until it rusts through into the main tank, water now gets into the tank, and petrol can make it out. I hope this is not the case with you but it is worth checking that this pathway is clear with some WD40 or similar.

Evening all.
First it was Spannerak, now it's Parrot man!.........Hmmmmm looks like I'm going to have to start writing poetry again, because none of you can stay with me on that score! & I can take the pi55 with impunity 'cos it's arty innit! ![]() Back to the techno bit.....You'll need a long 5mm ball ended allen key to access the drain screw on the front carburettor, a small torch helps here too. Check the inside of the tank with the aforementioned torch, any water in there will look like a jellyfish lurking at the bottom. Cheers. |
