Default Reccomend Maria a....SatNav!

Hi everyone

Maria (miss alpinestarhero) wants a satnav for xmas, her parents have agreed to get her one but they havnt got oodles of money, so we are looking at something under £200.

She is only using it in the UK, so dosnt need europe maps, and it will only be used for her to get from A to B, not A to B to C etc etc. Voice clarity is very important, as is ease of use...she dosnt want to have to press a million buttons to set a route, and she dosnt want something thats slow to re-calulate routes if she has to take a diversion route.

What does eveyone reccomend? We have seen the TomTom One, and a Garmin unit on the internet. Both seem good, but we'd like the opinion of the most trustable source of info on the internet, The Members of the .Org

Cheers guys,

Matt

I use a TomTom one for work, it can keep up with the Volvo T5 at full chat, calculates re-routes in a second or so and is soo easy to use, even I can manage it. Can't recomend it highly enough! Plus it has a two year warrenty. You can get it for about £140 online.

I've got a TomTom ONE (v2) UK version and its easier to use than our microwave. The missus is off in Brighton right now with it on her hen do.....I think thats where they were taking her anyway

Depends on if you plan on using it on a bike though.

I'm still looking for a good (affordable) bike satnav and so far I refuse to get TT Rider because of the daft price.

Anyway, stick to the ONE for the car it is superb, but expect no help on the bike as after version1 they removed the headphone socket.

I've tried several, the tomtom is the most reliable. The garmin I had used to take some awful decisions! For £200 you've got the pick of the bunch. Some come with traffic jam warnings, its a free radio driven service, not sure if its much use.

How about one that you can add world maps to etc?

price for that?

..and if you don't know where you want to go - jsut the vague general direction? i.e. East.

Do you have to have a route planned in advance on your pc back home or can you jus wake up one morning & say, "Bike, second star on the right & on till morning?"

ohh, an MP3 capability would be nice too......

Cheers guys. She only needs it for the car (i can read maps and use a compass ) so issues about the bike arnt important. Seems like the TomTom is the better choice; other reviews are similar aswell. I'll let her know

Matt

P.S. Dirk, if you want a vauge direction (e.g. east) then get a flippin compass for £5

erm, it would be nice to know the name of the dirt track I'm on/sat nav co-ordinates/ exit point of said road to civilisation....a compass ain't gonna help me do that!

Forget Tom tom they crash all the time! or in my experiance they do. I got the Road angel as it is actually a camera detector in it as weel. By that i mean it does not justpick up bre determined ones like tom tom but you can actually have it set up as per a normal road angel where it isa detector as well.
