Picked my 05 sv up on friday from rotherham & it's cursed. Within 15 minutes of collecting the bike a woman rammed into the back of me whilst waiting to pull on to a roudabout in rotherham. There was no visible damage & it was only a low speed shunt luckily... just felt like someone pushed the bike forward 6 inches with a good kick. Then when I got back into Dewsbury a woman ran a red and nearly had me off. Now for the technical stuff:
(ignition on/engine not running /\) Now, when the bike has been running for a few minutes (whether stationary or riding up the motorway as I was when I first noticed it) the LCD below the trip/odometer shows "CHEC". I've checked the handbook and it says make sure the kill switch is switched so the engine is on (which it is) and ensure the side stand is properly up. I haven't had chance to take her out since friday so I haven't checked to see if it was the side stand but I'm 99% sure it wasn't that since the engine didn't cut out when in gear etc. The handbook also says "If the display still indicates "chec" after above procedure, inspect the ignition fuse & connection of lead wire couplers." - Could anyone advise on this?

If you bought it from a dealer then take it back and have them check it. Before you do, check oil and coolant levels and all the usual suspects.

You will need to run the display diagnosis(sp?) to find out the problem, along with the following code.
Someone will be able to point you in the right direction. However see the workshop manual on this site for more info. |

You say it's an 05 bike, with only 513 miles thats very low. I have only had my K7 for just over 2 weeks and I am only 50 miles behind you. Could it be it has had a new display incorrectley fitted. CB1ROCKET is right best thing to do is run diag on display.

When I first got my '05 SVS, it did exactly the same thing. Worried, I looked up on the interweb and found that it's a common/generic fault on the models of that year at startup. After a few weeks of running every day, it dissappeared and I've not seen the message since August now. And the bike has run faultlessly for 3000 miles - and been serviced since with no issues.
