Default Yesterday nr woodhead

Ian Tweedie isnt a member but hes been on many pennine massive rideouts, so i wanted to post this here.

Around 9:20 yesterday morning we were on a rideout with the VTR1000.org boys heading toward glossop just off the woodhead pass, ulitmately heading toward matlock bath.

Ian has had a very serious accident and is currently stable in the high dependancy ward at tameside general .

and now the hard bit.

Ians lower left leg was lost at the scene and the surgeons said it wasnt possible to reattach it, hes suffered a massive knock to his tummy and after initially intending to remove one of his kidneys they have decided to wait 48 hrs to see what happens, he had a lot of internal bruising and swelling but its stopped and there hopefull they wont have to intervene.

im sorry if this appears very blunt and brutal, but this is taking a hell of a long time to write and i cant really think of anyway to flower it up

it took almost 40 mins for the ambulance to find us, and im pretty sure that if i live to be a 110 ys old that will be the longest 40 mins of my life.

he initially stopped breathing but started again ynder his own steam when chris turned him off his back.

he then remained concious throughout and became more lucid as time went by.

a lad called Al from the vtr club undoubtable stoped Ian from dying, he had the difficult task of trying to stem the blood loss, he was a true hero and i will be eternally grateful for what he did yesterday he carried out a truelly traumabc act, selflessly

Thanks to James Unhill as well, hed stayed with Ian and Vicky the night before and he stayed at the scene and at the hospital all day. Ian will be so pleased to know that his mates stayed with him,

Rob and Chris from squires who were with us were excellent too.

im just glad that throught it all his friendswere with him,

as always there was a random stranger who happened to be in the wrong place t the wrong time, a woman who stopped in her car who said she was something to do with the fire service she kind of took control far better than we could have done she was at the head end with me and rob,and others and she was excellent, i dont think could have held it together if she hadnt been there.

we were at the hospital with his wife Vicky most of yesterday and shes in bits, Vickis been on a few sv rideouts as well

we dont offiically know what how it happened yet so ill have to wait for the police investigation for the official report, but it seems that just before a sharp right theres a severe kick up in the road, Ian appears to have hit this and the fronts come up, when its come down tehbikes shook from teh front then right throughthe bike, meaning hes not been able to make any steering input at all.

anyone familiar with this bit oforaod will know that it cant be taken at any real speed its just too twisty, weve been over the same btlots of times, so were still not sure howits come about.

Anyone whos met Ian will know that hes a proper character and a true friend, the docotrs seem pretty up beat about his long term prospects, saying that if he wanted he could be back on bike within 6-12 mth witha prosthetic and no one would be any the wiser, i hop to god this is true, Ian truely loves his biking and even now is asking for his bike back........

if anyone thats met him wants anymore details pm me with a mobile,

but im sure everyone will want to wish him well in whats going to bea verydifficult time for Ian and Vicki.

Oh hell, I know that road very well and you're right it is very twisty indeed. It sounds like you all did a grand job staying with him and looking after him. Hope he's OK and on the mend soon.

Bloody heck. It is always horrid to read stuff like this.

When you see him, please pass on my best wishes for a speed recovery. From the couple of times I have met him, he always had a cheery disposition.

Makes you wonder why this sort of poo is allowed to happen. If the road was that bad surely the road engineers have a duty to sort out that kick up that caused this before anyone else get bitten.

UPDATE.

saw ian last night he was awake and trying it on with the nurses.

hes in a bad way but it was a massive relief to speak to him, even though his wife had seen him after being at the scene it didnt seemlike wed see him again

hes having more scans and xrays today as they still cant move his spine,3 vertebra damaged, but looks like no spinal cord trauma, but when they try and move him his vitals freal so summats not quite right yet, his kidney is still bleeding, the said they giveit 48 hr thats up this aft, so they will make a decision on that later today.

thanks for all the good wishes, he seemed really surprised that people remembered him,
but once youve met him, hes hard to forget........................
