Default What ISP would anyone reccomend

Just moved in with my girlfriend into rented accomodation, and want to get Broadband. Only I don't know who to go with.
I'm after a service that will give me a reasonable download limit, I'm not interested in any additional frills, and as I'm on a 6 month tennancy I don't want to be trapped into a service that I can't get rid of.
Any ideas out there? I've looked at Nildram, who seem to be reasonable, and BT can get stuffed!!
Can any of you lovely Orgers help me?

Ta, Paul

Bethere.co.uk

However, do check that they have service in your area.
By far the best ISP I've ever been with.

check you can get an ADSL service first.

I can't. Something to do with the poor quality of copper between me and the exchange. My neighbour across the road can. All of 256kb. Hardly broadband.

Still I do have a nice 20Mb cable service with a poo 750kb upload

Because they want to tie you into a 18 month contract, they are fairly expensive, and I was not impressed with the service I got from them when I called them

Yep, I can get ADSL, anything between 2 and 6 meg connection (depending who you do your speed check with 6 seems to be a 'up to' figure)

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ - longest running independent site I can think of for service provider comparisons.

Personally use Plus.net but always recommend Zen - they're a little more expensive (to the tune of a couple of quid) but (last time I checked) didn't have fixed term contracts, are slightly more business orientated and so generally have helpful and semi knowledgeable people on the end of the phone and don't take the wee wee with regard to "fair usage" policies as much as others.

Im with Virgin. other than thier shambles of a billing service, thier BB is fine. When i wa at home, i had Virgin BB (ADSL) then moved to Cable as the house we are renting did not have a BT line, and they wanted a nice cheap £130 or there abouts to install.

We got phone, and a 2mb no limits (fair usage policy applies) BB for £20 a month plus £25 installation. Im more than happy..other than with thier lousy billing service.

Money no object I'd recommend Zen. In the real world I can't offer any other advice than to second www.thinkbroadband.com (used to be adslguide.org before anyone thinks I'm just copying\taking **** out of MiniMatt)

I'm with Virgin. QoS is pretty bad though that might be my fault as much as theirs and I dread ever having to ring them or cancel my contract (I'll change banks to stop them taking the money) but it works out best for me as I'm an antisocial git that doesn't have a phone or a TV.
