I used to hate Mogwai... Saw them twice, one time they left the stage and I couldn't tell any difference. But a while back I saw them support another band, I forget who, and they were fantastic. And I'm a big Aerogramme and Biffy CLyro fan and both bands cite Mogwai as an influence. So, I thought I'd give them another pop, but where should I start? I'm more Glasgow Mega Snake than Cody if that's any use...

Great live band , blow hot and cold on record for me. Only own Rock Action(just average) but have a load of great stuff downloaded. (Whose titles escape me the noo. ![]() ![]() Start by getting onto limewire/myspace etc. for a few tasters? ![]() ![]() |

Soulkiss, I knew someone was going to say it, and I thought there's a good chance it'd be you
![]() I'm oldschool, I like CDs. Well actually I like records, but CDs are acceptable. I never listen to them, I rip them and listen to them on my PC andMP3 players, but I still like having a big wall of CDs to look at ![]()

Personally, I would say Happy Songs For Happy People is their strongest album, & Come On Die Young is the weakest, but they all contain good stuff. Trouble is, if you're after the more rocking stuff (like Glasgow Mega Snake) there isn't one album that's predominantly like that.
They released a song called My Father My King a while back, which isn't on any albums. It's 20+ minutes, and breaks down into a load of feedback and noise at the end. I was listening to it a couple of years back when a guy turned up to give us a central heating quote. He came in right in the noisy bit and said "I think your radio needs tuning mate". I laughed, but he just looked at me and I realised he was serious. When I pointed out it was a CD, he just shook his head. He didn't get the job... |

Yep, that was pretty much my first mogwai experience, at the jaffa cake in edinburgh- I was up the back of the venue hiding from my boss, and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the band and the feedback when they left the stage
![]() I'll try Happy Songs, cheers.
