Default Electrical Genius Needed

Hi all,

Decided to change the rear indis, already fitted were arrow minis. They worked fine but I was offered some nice chrome and black ones.

The new ones were a different rating of wattage and when I initially wired them in, the right hand side flashed very rapidly and the left was on permanently.

So I investigated the use of resistors. I made up the resistors, in parallel, and tried fitting them. The right side was perfect but again the left was on permanently.

What I noticed at this point was that the rear left indi lit permanently as soon as the ignition was turned on, without the switch being on.

I thought this may have something to do with the resistors I had rigged, so I decided to return to the original set up. After re fitting again the same problem exists.

As soon as I turn on the ignition, the left indi lights up, the front one flashes like mad when I use the switch but the rear stays on permanently. When I try the right side, no problem again, works perfectly.

Cannot for the life of me understand whats happening or why.

Cheers everyone,

Paul

check the cable all the way along and return to original settings taking out the resistors and seeing if it'll work. If it's drawing too much current it won't stay on permanently.

I may be having a slow start to the day, but shouldn't the resistors be in series with the indicators, rather than in parallel? Otherwise they could actually drop the overall resistance....

Hi Jambo,

All the threads I read and advice I had said put resistors in parallel to compensate for the rear indis flashing v fast.

However I did return to my original set up, so no resistors installed.

I had no prior problems with a bad earth and only since I disconnected the wires under the pillion seat, to remove old indis and reconnected new ones has the problem occured i.e. left indi on permanently when ignition is on.

Does sound like that though, I had allsorts of wierd stuff going on, like the sidelight would be on any time the clocks were powered, just because the sidelights had an earth back through a live circuit somewhere if that makes any sense.

Try earth the indis directly to the frame or engine with some croc leads.

Thanks Yorkie Chris,

I'll give that a bash later this afternoon, not a physics type of person I'm afraid. Get lost with leccy n circuits and what does what and why.

I'm sure there is a simple explanation.

I must have one of the best records for taking something that is working perfectly well and f**king it up in the fastest possible time, what can I say, it's a natural gift.

Tried this by clipping one end to outside of bulb holder (metal bit obviously)and other to the frame, made sure of a good contact, but made no difference bulb stayed on.

Not sure what this means but Hey Ho.
