I had one not long after getting the bike. If it is in the centre tread then it is fine to repair.
I also had a dealer say "Nope, can't do", I phoned another and they said no probs and it has been fine ever since.....they told me some people say it can't be just to try and see if they can get you to replace. Bottome line, any decent garage will take a look and give you their views......the only major no no I know of is if it is in the side wall or if it is the second one on any tyre.

The British Standard for tyre repair says that Z rated tyres CANNOT be repaired. All it means is the repair doesn't meet the standard, but is repaired in the same way.
This may be why some shops won't do a repair that others do. |

My rear and front tyre both have been plugged and they r fine I did Brands Indy on them so no problems....I would find a good garage to take the bike to look at it. As Drew said long as as its in central area its fine, though i would take it to be looked and don't let thme fob you off.
Though look at the tyre if its nearly done I would just replace it. Oh I was told by the place I use that the tyre can be pluged 2-3 times depending on where it is ect. You got my mobie number if you want to call me. |

![]() I have sucessfully repaired bike tyres for others but I would replace it if it were my own. The bike tyre carcass is too thin to "properly secure" any type of tyre repair plug...which were designed for car tyres. That and I only get 3500 to 4000 miles (front and rear) on sport touring tyres... I seem to be hard on tyres. ![]() Again I have seen a repaired tyre...OK several...last their normal wear life...but to me it's just not worth the risk. The shops that tell you to replace it are not simply out to get your $$$. They are protecting themselves from lawsuits. The tyre manifacturers say replace...do not repair. While most can be repaired...Who wants to find out at speed leaning over in a turn that theirs is the one which would not??? |

I have taken multiple punctured tyres to my local tyre shop, and they've taken the tyres off (after looking at them), then sent the tyre off to be repaired by the manufacturer!! This has been done by multiple different manufacturers, and they gurantee that the repair is up to spec for the British Standard. What the manufacturer does, is that they glue a piece of rubber over the hole from the inside of the tyre, thus making an air tight seal again. The only real problems with this, is if it's too close to the sidewall (or indeed, in the sidewall) or if the punture is very large, as you'll of lost some of the outer rubber on the tyre. All of the above, including the use of a 'loan tyre' (legal tred left on a tyre they've removed from another bike - used whilst my tyre is being repaired) costs me £20 (including removal & refitting of all tyres involved, and a bit of chain wax). |

i got the back wheel pluged by the local garage cost me £30... as the bike's going to get it's 4000 mile service.. well the bike has done 5000 (1000 miles late whoops)so i'm going to let the mechanic check it out, to see if i need a new tyre on the back anyway due to wear.......

Ace sounds good to, for the tyre to legal its need a depth of 1mm across 3/4 of the tyre, if its less it can be 3 points and ?60 should u get stopped. As I said on the phone I would replace it sooner as it will probally be sqaured off ect by then, but thats personal choice, but as its on the only thing has contact with the road take that intop account.

If its got 5000 miles then a plug is almost certainly a waste of cash. It will need replacing soon anyway.......
