All since last year, I've been thinking about the choice for my next bike to replace my first bike, my 2000 curvy SV650S.
I'm pretty sure I know my requirements now, so comfort & performance taking the following into account: 1. Commute to work/filtering etc. 2. Weekend fun (~100 mile sessions) 3. Look good (which excludes the VFR in my opinion ![]() 4. Manage 1 or 2 tours each summer, prolly to the continent. So be able to ride it for longer distances & carry a bit of luggage. I have a budget of about £4500 max, but preferably £3500-4000 for something not too old, with less than 10k on the clock. Pillion support is not important, it'll only be 1 up... unless the missus has a bump to the head and changes her mind! hehe I need to get out and test ride a few before I decide what to pursue, but didn't know whether I'd missed out anything which would also be suitable. So far I like the CBR 600 FS, and the Suzuki GSX-R750 I'm 6'3" tall, so screen & seating position are important to me. I had a sit on the Suzuki GSX-R750, it seemed kinda low to me, not sure if the riding position reflects that, or just standing position. Is the CBR 600 RR comfortable enough for a tall person, and to do a few longer trips? As the RR is what made me fall in love with biking, so I always keep coming back to it, despite never actually riding one yet! I know I've seen before some of the riding position comparison on class reviews in magazines, are there any internet resources of the same? Thanks, David EDIT:To include requested extra info. Quote:
However, I do like to be different, and the fact that I don't see many of these about makes me like that. Unless there a bad reason that you don't see many! lol Quote:
Insurance info: I'm 31, been riding 11 months so far, so will have 1 years no claims bonus all being well. As long as my insurance comes in under about 750 for the first year then I don't mind too much. I've riden allsorts experience wise, including 9 months of comuting to/from work, as well as weekend jonties. About 4k miles experience, no real long journeys yet though. Engine: Don't mind really, I love the screaming sound of a Straight 4, but wouldn't rule others out at all, not pidgeon holed my engine choice. Style: I love the Supersports, but realise that they aren't completely suited to what I need or to my size. I like the fully/mostly faired look. Not keen on FZR Half faired kinda look though, and nakeds/trailies etc are not my thing. I put a double bubble on my SV650S but still get really knocked around. yeah I'd say a late ZX9 would be ideal (given the limited info you've supplied), however it isn't really a bling bike and if that's important then perhaps not.
You fail to actually give a number of criteria that I would have thought would have been important, like engine type (IL4,triple, twin, V,single ?), style(Ssport, roadster, tourer, retro, super trailie),engine size (600-750, or 600-1000 ?) as well as your riding experiance and amount of NCB( if insurance is a concern). Cheers Mark.

I'm 6'1 and don't really have a problem on any bike to be honest. As previously mentioned you gotta consider the ZX9 (C model) and ZX6 (G-J model) of the same years, they are roomy and comfy as well as having good strong engines!

I hear the best sports bikes for the tall is the 2001-2003 RSV Mille/R. They are big and look SEXY
![]() If you like the bike but want something a lot more SV in riding position then consider the Falco like I have (I would say that) but damn I love it to bits already... just need the weather to alow me to get out on her properly! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

the 600rr I went out on and decided I could never live with its tiny size, I was looking through the screen to read the speedo! An hour later and I think I could have lived with it

Without knowing what type of bike you would like, I would say the new Triumph Tiger seems to fit those criteria. Good for a tall rider, they get good reviews for being fun and are well known to tour.

I know a guy of your height that rides everywhere on an 05 GSXR600.
All he has done is put a double bubble on it and gets on just fine. |

Actually thinking about it, you want value for money and a great alrounder, have a look at the triumph RS, you'll get a really good one for less than your budget.
Cheers Mark.

I think it depends how flexible you are. Core strength is useful too, to keep the weight of your wrists.
I'm 6' and found a CBR600RR as comfortable as a pointy SV, maybe a little more windblast but not much. However, I did start off on Aprilia RS125! |
