Default Where to stay / where to ride in New Forest

Hello boys and girls of the South.

I'm thinking of taking my missus away for a weekend on the bike to the New Forst. She want to stay in the Burley Manor, which is very nice, but i think not really the place to go on a bike. So i'm looking for a nice Inn or B&B prefereably with somewhere safe to park the bike. So any ideas on where we should stay, and can you suggest some good roads to ride / things to see whilst we are there.

Ta Very Much.

There is a place called sandy balls(no joke), They have really nice wooden lodges, and doubles up as a camp site.

http://www.sandy-balls.co.uk/

have a read. They have a SPA, leisure club etc......

There are loads of really nice roads all round that area just a case of exploring.

Its not to far from Bournemouth either which is a nice run down to.

Just a suggestion!

Good luck

Much of the Forest is a 40 limit, due to the animals that have a habit of wondering aimlessly in the road. I wouldn't say it is heavily policed, however expect a major b0llocking if you get caught - best not to chance it. Some great sights though if you are happy just to have a bimble around, Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard are worth a look.

The A35 which runs from Lyndhurst to Bournemouth (I think) is a NSL however, and is good for a hoon however it does have a lot of traffic on it - likewise the road from Ringwood upto Salisbury.

Sorry although you are visiting my back yard I can't help you out with any advice on B&B (don't have to use them you see) but I can recommend some roads. MattSV is quite right re the speed limit but hey, keep your eye open for white cars parked just off the road.

There are horses, a few donkeys, cows and deer roaming loose and often stood beside the road. Treat them with respect. As a guide, a horse will lift its' head before it walks across the road and unless it's a foal, will not usually spooked by traffic/loud exhausts. Cow are a menace and give no warning that they are going to step out in front of you. They are also twice a solid as a horse. You'll be very lucky to see deer unless your riding at night.

A nice little ride round the forest is as follows (if you've got Autoroute 2002 I can sent you the route)
Lynhurst centre carpark A35 towards Christchurch/Bournemouth, good fast road with no animals.
Left after 7 miles towards Brockenhurst, this road is a classic forest road with some interesting bends. On entering Brockenhurst take the first right unless you want to ride through the ford.
Plenty of good pubs/food in Brockenhurst.
From Brockenhurst take the road to Beaulieu.
You'll pass the turning on the right to Bucklers Hard just before you enter Beaulieu (park in the Master Buliders car park as its free and walk through the pub to get to the hard rather than pay the entry fee, or hop over the fence by the road)
In Beaulieu there is the National Motor Museum (needs a day) tea rooms and the Montagu Arms.
From Beaulieu you can head back to Lynhurst or take the Hythe road and turn right and right again at the top of the hill visit Exbury Gardens (again needs a day) and then on to Lepe Beach and views of the Isle of Wight.

Another place to visit are Mudeford Quay (park by the cafe not in the car park) an the Poole Quay on a Tuesday night from Easter onwards.

Hope this helps.
