Got this in the email today - it tells you about online scams then suggests updating your details online...ffs...do they think we all came here in a banana boat after falling out of the stupid tree or what? Hopefully I've disabled the link...
Dear Halifax Bank Customer, Recent email scams have attempted to consume customers into disclosing their Online Banking security log-in details. We publish details about such scams on our security pages. However, we would like to get security warnings across to customers as many as possible. That's why we're asking you to take a few minutes to check and update your account details. This will allow us to update you occasional security and Online Banking service information. Due to the recent security update, you are requested to follow the link below. s://w.halifax-online.co.uk/_mem_bin *Important* We have asked few additional information which is going to be the part of secure login process. These additional information will be asked during your future login security so, please provide all these info completely and correctly otherwise due to security reasons we may have to close your account temporarily. ![]() Security Advisor Halifax Bank PLC.

I've received them from Nat West and Co-op bank. I'm a customer of neither. I just forward the e mail to the relevant banks to warn them these are going round.

At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs.....did you know that you can float your cursor over these links in most browsers without clicking. At the bottom of the browser it will show the location that the link refers to, usually some crazy IP address or server name other than the real bank.

I've started getting spoof Ebay emails too. I forward them unopened to spoof@ebay.co.uk.

I won 20 million dollars the other day aparently in the Nigerian Lottery, all I need to do is send £35 admin fee to some bloke who will process the winnings!
Wonder if they could just take the admin fee from my prize ?? |
