I was removing the bolts that hold the rear head on the right side of the bike and I noticed it was grinding on the way out, so I called it quits and reversed it putting it back in when the fvcker snapped. Its broken clean at the head, you can see it through the frame mount hole.
In retrospect I know why it cracked, the engine was 2mm lower, I guess with the weight and settling. Now Im scrambling to raise the engine 2mm to align the mount hole with the head mount hole so I can drill out the screw and tap the fvcker so I can put in a new bolt. I used a car jack under the engine to "raise" it but the sucker wont budge, yes I losened all bolts except for the lower rear so it can pivot. The bike is a 99 svs. I guess I'm a bit rusty with the feel of the wrench... I know the engine will be OK without this bolt but fvck, this bike is (was) mint! HELP!!! See circled in red in picture below, thats the snapped bolt. The green ones are the ones that I losened to lift the block. ![]() Edit: Further reading led me to believe that turning the main engine bolt (where the engine thrust washer is located but on the opposite side) made the engine shift 2mm. I'm going to make a tool to turn it using a socket and a dremel, but could someone explain how this gizmo works? |
