OMG! I put my lovely machine back in today to try and source the problem with my FI light coming on occassionally and picked up a courtesy bike in the process.
When we left this morning, it was around 6'C and very blustery. The fairings, DB screen and hotgrips all played their part and the ride up to the dealers was OK if a little wobbly. Picked up a naked SV as a courtesy bike, and by god I felt the difference! I was frozen on the way down, with my fingers feeling like ice poles! The wind over my legs was surprising too. Every time that I decided to have a blast to either get away from some "tailgating" prat or to get home quicker, I felt numb. You guys on the naked SVs are hardy souls. Garry ![]() |

Ahh... we're not so tuff! You get used to it pretty quick. Muscles build up to deal with the wind and nerve endings die to deal with the cold.

I can't see any advantage of the nekkids other than if you drop them there is less to get damaged ...
They don't look as good and you are more open to the elements!! ... if you are doing motorway/fast riding, fuel economy must suffer too ![]() p.s. I owned a nekked curvy for a short while, so have felt both sides too, not just being argumentative! ![]() |

Well my clean K6 naked is superb looking and many people say its the business. (My avator pic does not do it any justice)
Over the past few days the wind has been gusting at 50mph plus. It'll effect any bike. Naked and proud ![]() |

For S versions of the SV I prefer the Curvey, for the N versions I prefer the Pointy. I think the nekkid look sbetter, but life would be boring if we all thought the same (might be a few less wars though).
Fuel economy? Would have thought you're right there. I've averaged 55mpg since I got mine new. High speed trips an S must be better. Elements? Not fussed really. Riding position is the big selling point to me. Low speed control is fantastic. I can do lock to lock steering, feet up, at really low speeds as I'm picking my way through traffic and I prefer the riding position on the A and B roads too. It'd be crap on a fast lap of Snetterton though! Horses for courses.

A motorcycle engine (especially a v-twin) is a magnificent thing and should NEVER be covered in cheap tacky plastic paneling. Long live the sexier looking nakeds.
Unless it's a Dulsville in which case the less of it you can see the better. |

I agree - I like the detailed bling of a naked bike... plus they are good for lazy boy riding like mine, and go fast enough when you need too. If I ever got an SV again - I would get a naked for sure. But there are so many cool looking naked bikes out at the moment. KTM690 duke is a great looking bike, even the Kwak ER6n is neat in black.

Pointies I don't really have a preference, the frame is the same style as every other bike that's come out recently so nothing bad about covering it up.
