Hi folks,
Technical details: 2001 SV650S, second owner, ~22k miles (yes, I'm a yank! ![]() A while back on a winter morning, the combination of cold engine and cold tires led me to have a very unexpected transition from rider to pedestrian. A fairly low-speed high-side slammed me and the bike down on the right side pretty hard. Broke some various bits and pieces: ![]() ![]() The bracket for the rear pedal and brake, turn signal, front brake plastic thingy from the reservior, fairing, mirror. Oh, and one of these too: ![]() I've replaced the bracket, the plastic front brake piece, the turn signal, and "fixed" the fairing and mirror in truly ghettofabulous fashion with some duct tape and 2 part epoxy... I flushed the brake systems front and rear, new fluid, oil change, bit of a tuneup with new spark plugs and air filter... It looks like it's ready for the road again. Anything I might be missing? ![]() ![]() Any help appreciated! Sincerely, -Troy |

Better hide that straight brake lever - Chris numbers will be along in a minute wanting it :P Good to hear you are getting back on the road - did my collar bone just before new years in 2006, got of slightly lighter than yo on the damage stakes. Someone who can advise better on what to look at will be along in a minute I am sure.

Don't worry mate, us limeys use miles as well...
Just off the top of my head I'd check the frame all over for damage, the forks for bends or twisting, the discs and brakes for damage, and all over for oil, coolant and petrol leaks. I'd also have a look at you wheel alignment. Someone more knowledgable than me will be here shortly to update the list for you... |

Hi Troy,
Bad luck chum. ![]() First time I've seen a ginger Curvy. ![]() I would get the forks checked out just in case they got a bit twisted. Should only be a matter of loosening off the yokes and setting them, if they are. Also batteries can suffer, but dunno if the modern sealed ones do. |

Troy, Sorry to hear about the off. Hope the shoulder is getting better! Where about are you in Oregon? As others have said, check you frame for obvious damage. Also the wheel alignment, check to see if you forks have twisted in the yokes, check you head bearings to see if there's any play. Just all around give a good look over, brake lines, any leaks. Hitting the fairing like that did you bump the radiator? I'm probably missing something. Not an expert or anything. Tho one may come on along soon and straighten me out! Cheers!

how rusty is that down pipe?
where do you live, Bonneville salt flats? Seriously though, sorry to hear about the off. The shoulder looks really painful. Good luck with the mending of body & bike |

Yeah... The fairing protected them from taking any damage!!!

I checked the radiator pretty closely, it looks like the rubber nubs that the fairing sticks into prevented any tweaking of the radiator itself. Nothing bent there, no leaks. Quote:

I lived in Portland for about nine years. Now I'm in central Oregon. If you have a front stand that supports by the neck you can loosen the yokes to see if the forks have twisted. Make sure you support the front wheel so it dose not drop any. You can then use the string method to check your wheel alignment. A quick search on here for wheel alignment will give you some good results on that method if you are unfamiliar. You can always look for a shop that has a laser alignment tool if all else fails. Cheers!

Ahh, cool. I've got a friend in Terrebonne who I visit whenever I get a chance. I love the dry, clean (if sometimes a bit dusty!) air of central Oregon.
