Default Dremels

My new one* arrived this morning ...I now have a pathological need to attack something with a cut-off disc- anything will do, as long as I can hear that little motor scream, feel the disc slicing through and smell burning stuff.

I'm off to the garage, I may be some time.

* Brand new F1 Edition 300 model with a flexi-drive and a biscuit tin size box full of extras - ?50 on ebay.

the discs shatter with alarming regularity, i've yet to have one embed itself in the soft flesh of my arm but i've no doubt it'll happen one day...

Great little bits of kit, but yes the cutting discs can break easy. Don't try to cut any fork legs!!

I know about discs shattering, this is my third Dremel. I've been using them for nearly 20 years.

Thanks for the warnings though, appreciated.

They were clearing those out of B&Q a while back, I got one at the time... That wee clickwheel thing's clever eh? Then you see how much the replacement discs are If you've not had the flexi-drive before (I hadn't) read the run-in instructions, if you don't do it right you end up with all the grease in the wrong place, very annoying. Er, or so I hear, not that I'd do a fool thing like ignore the instructions.

Seems a very good price for what you get, sure it's the older model dremel but it's just as good as far as I can tell.

You're supposed to run it dremel-up, tip down for a few minutes- gets some heat into it and distributes the grease. You can actually hear and feel it happening, which is kind of cool, the speed rises over the time perior and at first it heats up in some places, by the end it loses the hotspots. But the main downer if you do it wrong like I did is that loads of grease runs into the chuck part and makes a terrible mess.

I did nearly get a bit of shattered disk in the eye. Which reminds me I need more cutting discs. Got me out of some fixes has the old dremel, and into a few as well. Very useful for cutting a slot in a cheese allen bolt

It must be just me then. I can't see the purpose of a dremmel.
