Car Vs Bike Service

Had my 50,000 mile & MOT for the car on Saturday. Took it to the main dealers thinking the extra $$ would mean they did a good service. Needless to say the car came back with no indication that anything had been done; even the slightly flat tyres weren't pumped up. All this for the princely sum of ?250 (with no work done)

In comparisson I take my bike in; old and tired and get back a clean, 'tight' bike. It feels like new with brakes that bite, and clutch that feels replaced and a general smoothness and refined ride in the whole running of it. They'll even give the whole thing a clean for me.

Totally different world...

where did you take the bike?

I go to a place in Newcastle (Westgate Super Bikes). There's only room for one bike in the shop- it's tiny!

Took the car to Evan-Halshaw on Newport Road; not overly impressed.

Demon bikes used to recommend them for suspension work, but I was never so sure. I guess I have nothing to judge them on, except their outward appearance really.

Definitely, and if I'm in the area next time I need a service I'll use them.

The bike felt great afterwards; they obviously spend longer than most places on the bikes, and the guy who runs it seems reliable/friendly enough. I gather he's a pretty keen racer who uses some ancient 1000cc heavyweight Honda against all of the power rangers.

car garages can do the leest and charge the most, i'm dreading mine.

i do all mine myself (mind you i am a vehicle technician for the police) so much easier than taking it to a garage, if you can change the oil on an sv you can do it on a car.

If you are bothered about getting a service stamp (an depending upon the age of the car, so it wont affect resale values) why not try to find a good independant specialist in your area. Try a car forum for your particular make of cr, and go with who is recommended.

Thats what I've done over the past 4 years or so. Would never take mine to a main dealer, as I keep the cars I have for 4 or 5 years, and the extra paid to the dealers is often more that then hit you will take in resale by not having a full factory service history.

You also know the car has been properly serviced.
