Default Shiny downpipes & hard cheese

I thought that whilst I had the lowers off my machine at the weekend to fit a decent horn (more of that later), I'd polish the downpipe again and get into the bits that suffer a little more due to being hidden away.

Anyway with the usual hard buffing with Autoglym Metal Polish and the two-handed, wrapped cloth technique etc - here is the resulting shiny downpipe...... (taken on an OLD mobile)

The only problem is the oil cooler and its' grille. How bad are they? I thought that I'd remove the mesh and brush down and then a spray with some satin black VHT paint. No chance! The damn screw wouldn't budge even with a ratchet handle after it'd been doused for ages in penetrating oil. Oh well, it'll just need to be drilled out the next time and replaced with something a bit better. Likewise the grille I reckon.

Oh... and I must admit to also employing a polishing mop in the cordless drill - but it still takes mainly hard manual graft doesn't it?

The rest of the bike was treated to a good shine by my ever-so-generous volunteer Quedos...... after she'd finished one of her THREE bikes

It was almost worth the knackered kneecaps kneeling on those slabs all day.....

Good job on the downpipe mate, very good job! Yeah, you'll probably need to drill out the screws. I'd recommend fitting a set of stainless steel radiator and oil coller covers, they'll help protect and also look good kept polished!

Again, excellent job!

Yep - maybe this'll be the year that I get round to fitting the "Chewy22" stainless screw kit I've been promising the bike.

As for the cooler cover, it'll probably be a Beowulf. First of all the Hamicad one doesn't seem to come on it's own - "buy a SET sir?" and secondly the "SV" cut out is not to my taste in addition to the fact that I doubt it'd provide much protection against stones.

I passed my test yesterday and dropped a deposit on a `04 pointy today , Am pretty glad I saw this thread as the downpipes on my SV are looking a bit dull , came very close to buying an old set and getting them ceramic coated or something :¬)
