Default Tips on using paint stick

Got my 2x paintstick kit at last (contains 1 base & 1 not base) and I now need to do a good job on patching the scratched grab rail on my SV.

I'd be much obliged for advice on how to get the best results i.e. make my grab rail look like new again.

Please

When i first got my sv the person who owned it before only used to ride solo ie permanent seat cowl so no grab rail or pillion seat when i got the bike.

I got a pillion seat off ebay and also off ebay paid around?15 for a grab rail which was originally blue(had a few scratches as well)so took it to my mate who's a powder coater and he sorted it for me in silver.Looks good.hth

Here are some basic tips;

The smoother the paint, the better the finish

Don't use sandpaper, use rubbing compound to smooth the edges and clean up the scratch. Sandpaper will just damage the surrounding paint.

Apply thin coats and allow to dry, then use rubbing compound to smooth the repair between EACH coat.

Finish off with polishing compound to bring out the shine.

Think of polishing compound as 4000 grit and rubbing compound as 1000 grit.

Thin multiple coats are your friend....Heavy thick coats = yuk.

Thanks for the advice.

I was just gonna get a thin artists paintbrush and drop some paint into the scratch!
