10 K Run 4th May

Hello peeps
I am heading up to Edinburgh on Sat to take part in the 10K run on the Sunday 4th May and then heading back down to Oulton fro BSB on Monday.
We will be up there early (ish) on Sat and I would love to get some of your fabulous roads in on Sat or on the way back down on Sunday/Monday.
Any suggestions ???

Both of these posts come from threads about our favourite biking roads so if you click them there'll be even more to chose from. For my own part I'd take the A68 from Northumberland to Edinburgh but I'm a screaming weegie so what do I know?

Around the east of edinburgh, out on the A1 off at A198 and basically follow the A198 along the sea front (twisty and the road goes up and down) to aberlady, out the other side and on to and through gullane (i love coming around the sharp right hander on the golf course as it rises up and you get loads of grip then gunning it along the straight through the golf course! )and then onto and through to north berwick (if you fancy you can stop on the sea front next to the bird place and have a cup of tea). (well thats sort of the route that i can remeber )i normally go for a spin there after work if i wanna go for a bleeeeeee

Think the route is called the coastal route, its fun for a few spare "just get out in ur bike" hours.

A damn good run is down the A7 to galashiels (long straights with sweeping corners no speed cameras unlike A6 and then right to selkirk and then right again to St Marys loch for lunch. You want twisties that road takes alot of consentration. To get back there is the single track road across the glens and back via a701 (i think thats right? but northy i think you know where i mean)

or

down to kelso on A68 (not too many cameras think there is 3) then off at lauder on the A697, and then off on a6089 (no cameras on this road but last time i went down there i spotted 2 police cars of the speed cop variety!) its a fun fast road with sweeping bends and you can lunch at kelso!

There's bound to be better but you could do worse than to go up the A707 then the A72 to Innerleithen, then spend 10 minutes riding back and forwards trying to find the B709, then carefully going up the single track potholed bit til you suddenly hit the new black stuff at the edge of Lothians, and then just, basically, go for it but watch out for the unmarked right-handed hairpin where all the sports bikes and boy racers crash It's only unmarked because the chevrons are always getting demolished. Lots of fairly blind bends here so be careful and use the road. That takes you to the A7 south of Edinburgh, then you can bop across to Glasgow easily by boring roads, or there's an assortment of old A roads that cross the country like the A71 or A89 which are, well, alright. Better than motorways, worse than proper roads.

Not by any means an expert in great roads though, I tend to just ride the ones I know are good where I can...
