Hello all,
I've been searching the site for information on this but had no joy really. I have some electrical problems with my 2001 naked SV 650 - I think since some overzealous pressure washing! The rear lights (not the brake lights), numberplate light and the tacho and speedo lights are all out. I replaced them all as a matter of course but they still don't work. All the other lights work fine, I believe. All the faulty lights are fed by a grey wire and (IIRC) a black / white wire. Again, the brake lights (combined bulbs) work correctly. I had a fiddle around for quite a while the other day, checked all the fuses and fiddled with the connectors behind the headlight, but no joy. In case it's relevant, the numberplate bulb was blackened. None of the other bulbs were blackened but I don't know whether they were blown or not. I hope someone has some advice for me. I can give it to a mechanic but am interested in fixing it myself. I have a multimeter but little experience with electrical systems (this is my first bike, for what it's worth). Thanks for any help given. Ta, Ben |

That's the sidelight circuit, check if the wire to the switch has voltage, and see if they come on when you put the "park" light on.
Also have an online kick in the nuts from me for pressure washing your bike, it ain't good for em! The park light gives the sidelights a direct feed from the battery (not the gauge lights though) Also try take the RHS switchgear plug off and jumper together the white and orange/green wires, this will bypass the switch and tell you whether it's the switchgear at fault. If I had to bet, I'd say a broken wire in the loom somewhere, but the possibility of this being cured by a burst of WD40 into the switch shouldn't be ignored ![]() The black and white wire is brake light. The black with white tracer is the earth. P.s welcome to the site

Thanks for that Chris - I'll have another fiddle around tomorrow.
The pressure washing helps with the laziness but I'll not do it again. I already figured I shouldn't be squirting water into the chain & other oily bits. Ta, Ben |

I pulled all my plastics off the other week because of 'odd' electrical problems, dim lights, miss starts and intermitent battery charges. Found a 'fuzzy' live feed into one of the multi blocks at the front of the bike. Rewired it and everything works fine again, even noticed that my dash lights are brighter then before.

Thanks Dan.
Your block contacts showed a lot of corrosion which mine don't have; I shouldn't be surprised if it was one of these anyway. I ran out of time and for now have a length of T&E which I manually hook up to the light after sundown! I'll let you know what the cause is when I find it. Ta, Ben |

The other thing to look at doing is just pulling them all off and letting them hang down as the cables can fill up with water, which can cause internal corrosion. Also have you had a look at you starter relay, on the right side of the bike behind the black triangle.
